My father has suffered a long time from Chron’s disease. As a result of the constant attacks of that illness, he had a lot of scars on the surface of the colon and last tests are showing a cancer of that part of the intestines. It looks like he will have to rely on stoma for a while. Can you live a normal life after abdominoperineal resection with stoma?

Well, I have to admit that is far from easy life. A cousin of mine had that stoma and he carried it for some time until his intestines were rearranged. But the doctors cut only a small portion of his colon, and I am not sure what is the situation like with your father. Overall, he will have to take extra care of his hygiene because the feces will be excreted through that stoma (we can simply call it a hole in the abdomen).
