I had another culture for all types of candida, bacterial vaginosis and vaginal B strep and all were negative. I've never tested positive for any candida and I am doing better so I just have to figure out what to do to keep doing better. I hope you're doing better too.

I am doing ok. Still have glabrata and still trying to figure out a long-term solution. I hope you can get some answers from a good women’s health clinic!
D/S,
How are you both doing lately??? I literally feel like the only person who still has this thing:(

To be honest i have not had the guts to go back to the doctor to get a culture done again to see if i am still clear or not. I dont want to face the nightmare again. Though since the last few days i do sometimes feel like my symptoms r coming back but then the feeling goes away. I have my fingers crossed. Will run to the doctor if i am certain of my symptoms.
Have u been trying rounds of boric acid lately? Have u been to a doc? Whats ur update to treating glabrata now? I sincerely hope u get relief soon and r cured completely.

Hopefully yours is just residual burning and not actually glabrata still. I am trying yet another regimen right now with two oral anti fungals plus a vaginal cream (boric acid for as long as I can handle it then I switch to terazol cream). I have no idea if it is working yet. The last doctor I talked to was big about treating with both oral and vaginal treatments because she says the yeast gets in your tissues and even if you wipe out the active infection, it will just come back. We’ll see. I am so praying this will work for me, it’s been so miserable!!! Keep me posted on how you are doing!
D - if you’re still checking this forum, I hope you are still clear and doing well!!!!

What two oral antifungals are you taking? I think I might like to try an oral antifungal. I have read that oral antifungals are helpful with a vaginal antifungal on a longer term basis. Hope this regimen makes you feel much better and gets rid of the candida. Thanks.

Hey everyone! I've been reading this post for the past year now, it's been really helpful, thank you for sharing your experience. I wanted to share my story of dealing with glabrata and also look for some advises, as I am still fighting it today. Please forgive my spelling mistakes, I live in a non-english speaking country :)
I've contracted glabrata around a year ago, probably due to use of antibiotics. I went to few doctors who didn't know how to treat it, and received few noneffective treatments, until finally found a doctor who specialized in similar issues. I should mention that this doctor told me that many specialists in this fields think that in many cases glabrata does not need to be treated, and it does not cause an inflammatory reaction like candida albicans does. She said she had patients who were treated for glabrata, but eventually found out the symptoms were due to something else. In my case, she did advice to treat it, because I had it at a high level. I did a round of boric acid for 14 days, and the candida was gone. This doctor also recommended me to do vaginal douches of baking soda - you put one tablespoon of baking soda with 2 glasses of water - every evening right before putting the boric acid, she said it helped other patients and I did feel a bit better after doing it.
Unfortunately, about a month after this treatment I started to feel the symptoms again, and a swab confirmed I have glabrata again. You can probably understand how devastated I was, but I really tried to stay optimistic about it. I can't understand why it came back, the only thing I can think about is that at this point I was not completely following the candida diet I did before, and also I was under a lot of stress. But I really wonder if that could be the reason for it too come back.
Few weeks later I started another round of boric acid, which made me feel better but the candida was still there. I waited a while, and last month started another round, this time together with vaginal nystatin. I put one nystatin in the morning and boric acid at night for 14 days, and than day on-day off for few more days. This time it works! I must say that I did felt some light symptoms, but I had two clear swab. Then a month later, once again the symptoms grew stronger, and once again the swab showed the candida is back.
I went to see another specialist doctor, as I wanted to hear other opinion. This doctor insisted that glabrata should not cause symptoms and does not need to be treated. She said that probably something else caused my symptoms at the beginning, and afterward the nerves in the area become sensitive. She suggested to use numbing cream (not sure how it is called in english) for few weeks in order to "restart" the nerves around this area. I did try it for a while, it helped locally but I didn't feel it made a difference in the long run.
I also take a strong probiotics, one that has to be kept refrigerated. I took homeopathic medicine for a while. Right now I am doing acupuncture as well as taking chinese herbal medicine. Don't know if it helps but from everything I tried this is the thing that I feel has a good impact.
I am really wondering what I could do next, I can start another round of boric acid and maybe another one if it will not help, but I don't want to treat it again only for it to come back again. I am not sure what I could do to prevent it from coming back, and would appreciate any advise on this matter.
Thanks for taking the time to read, I hope everyone here are feeling better.

Right now I am taking diflucan and lamisil together orally plus doing a vaginal treatment. I honestly can’t tell you if it is working at all yet. I will get another culture soon and will know more then and can update.
R,
I am certainly no expert on this but am in the same boat in that I cannot seem to get rid of the infection permanently. I talked to one doctor who explained that local treatments wipe out the active infection but don’t address the yeast that makes it’s way into your tissues. She thinks you have to do both an oral and vaginal treatment together for a long enough time to wipe out all the yeast. Unfortunately the majority of the oral medicines are azoles which some people with glabrata are resistant to (I fall into this category) but it might be worth getting a sensitivity culture if you haven’t already to see what your options are.
Anyone else out there run into this problem and have some advice?

I went to see my doctor again, she suggested another round of boric acid treatment, this time for one month, and afterwards 2-3 times a week for 3 months. Also, she stressed the important of doing baking soda douches every day, apparently this candida cannot live in an alkaline environment, so it could really help together with the treatment. She did not mention taking oral treatment but I will ask her about it and also about a sensitivity culture, which I didn't do before.
I also asked her about the option of the symptoms being caused by something else. She said that sometimes glabrata does not cause any symptoms, but sometimes it does, so the symptoms could definitely be caused by it. I'm not very keen on starting this long boric acid treatment, but I can't see any other option, besides trying to manage the symptoms and live with it. Also, flucytosine is not available in my country and amphotericin B is very expensive, so it's not really an option for me.
On the positive side, she told me she had some patients who had really hard time getting rid of glabrata, but something always worked for them eventually, even if it took a long time.
Thank you for your reply and take care,
R.

I really hope the longer treatment of boric acid works for you! I do think boric acid is effective but it can take multiple rounds to get to no growth. Unfortunately for me, the tissue is so damaged now that using the boric acid is really painful. I do think the sensitivity culture would be good to have even if you aren’t planning on using an oral right now. If the boric acid alone doesn’t work, you might want to consider adding an oral medication along with the boric acid. The best oral would probably be the one your strain is most sensitive to (as shown by the sensitivity culture). I am waiting on a culture now to see if that has helped me. If not, I will have to see if I can get the ampho b/flucytosine gel again. It was really expensive the first time:(
Anyway, please keep updating. Most of the time I feel like I am the only one left out here. Thanks for the information from your doctor, it’s good to hear most people get rid of it eventually!!!!!

i’ve been reading this thread for a while now. i’ve had yeast infection for more than a year now too, and i’ve never really tested to see if it’s glabrata but i’m almost certain it is because the only thing that has helped ease the symptoms is boric acid. i was 6 months free from yeast symptoms while i was using boric acid as a preventive method (2 pills every week, and right after sex). last month i thought i was good without it, so i stopped, and the damn yeast came right back. i’ve been suffering again with constant infections for a month now... i think i’ll try the multiple rounds of boric acid as D suggested. maybe you guys can try using 2 boric acid pills after the long rounds end? about oral pills, i’m taking Candida Cleanse bc idk if taking antifungals in a long term is good, and no oral anitfungals worked for me before (i tried diflucan, nystatin and a bunch of other stuff). thank you all for this little community. i feel so hopeless and alone sometimes.

D/S - are you both still clear?
I most recently tried 200mg diflucan + 250 lamisil + boric acid which took the growth from heavy to few in two weeks. I am now just continuing with boric acid hoping to get rid of it but the docs want me to do another round of flucy/ampho b gel. I’m honestly worried it won’t stay gone regardless of which option I take. The docs seem to think the boric acid just suppresses it....
Thanks for any input!

Hi Karen,
I have been reading this forum and I have been through all the emotions with you guys. I wonder what happened to D... I hope she is well
My doctor told me that I have Glabrata. It didn't show up on the yeast stain, but she said she saw it under the microscope. I did the boric acid 14 days and boy was burning by day 14. I was then supposed to do it prophylactic for 3 days a week. I was burning so bad that I could barely do that. My doctor told me to use coconut oil and it worked for s while and then it didn't. I couldn't do it 3 days a week after. A while I just did it once a week and I knew it was coming back. On yesterday I was told that it was there and was prescribed amphe (?) suppositories. It isn't the compounded mix because I was told that the mix is an absolute last resort because it's like 1000.00 per gram. I was also told that it may cause some discomfort more so than the boric acid. I can't imagine! I also was dealing with Bv infection but the bacteria wasn't the typical gardnella. My doctor wants to treat with antibiotics if culture comes back positive but in the meantime I'm to take the amph(?) suppositories. I think I need to wait for the bacteria culture because if I treat yeast and then Turn around and treat bacteria that defeats the purpose. I think they should be treated at the same time or bacteria should be treated first.
As I type this I am burning! It's not constant and I try to use bentonite clay for it which does help too.
I wanted to know if the amphe (?) topical treatment caused any more damage to your vaginal tissues. I read that the boric acid gave you D fissures :(.. I would like to stay tuned to this forum because sometimes it does feel like you are alone. I pray a lot and am waiting on the Lord
To deliver me completely from all this.

I have read where boric acid can cure glabrata. I hope this gets rid of yours. Maybe it got rid of the glabrata for D and S since they aren't responding in a while.

Cindy - I do know both D and S posted that they cured their infections with boric acid (multiple rounds) but I haven’t heard whether the infections have stayed gone in the following months. I would think no posts would be a good sign hopefully.......
