I'm 23 and female. I have the same problem. I'm up all night if I masturbate or have sex and orgasm. Any knowledge or ideas as to why I can't sleep are welcomed and appreciated :)

My boyfriend is like this. he's always gets wide awake after orgasm. Our sex is a strictly day time activity since he'll be up all night if we do it before bed.

Same problem -- 49 yo female. Haven't found a solution yet, either, other than restricting sex to mornings and daytime.

Yes, my husband & I are very active. He is 66 yo & I am 58yo. We are in great shape as well. After sex, I fall asleep in about 1 second. He stays awake for 3-4 hours. The doctor says the older one gets, he knows people will enjoy the activity for a much longeR time frame. Which is true. But he says it's because the heart rate is being elevated for such an extended length off time it fully weakens him. It is difficult, because he doesn't get any sleep and struggles from the lack of sleep until he can make it up. It's also hard to choose other times for sex.

I am a 29 y/o male and I will tell you my thoughts on this matter. I apologize if my thoughts are a little scattered, I will do my best.

When I was younger, I could orgasm and go right to sleep after orgasm. As I got older, I was not able to sleep after orgasm. Now if I orgasm before bed, I cannot go to sleep for hours. Its really frustrating because when I am tired my sex drive is higher. The more tired I get, the higher my sex drive. Also, I noticed that when I get an erection while tired, as the erection goes away I get REALLY tired. However, if I masturbate to relieve the sex drive (and the erection), I will get kinda sleepy for a few minutes right after orgasm, but then I am wide awake.

I have found that the best way for me to get a good night's sleep is to fall asleep with an erection. So sometimes when I am having trouble falling sleep, I will masturbate to get an erection, but not so much that I orgasm, and then I am able to sleep. Based on all this, I determined that I needed to have the ability to have increased blood flow "down there" to sleep. It is harder for me (though not impossible) to get more blood flow, and therefore an erection (which as it goes away is as good as a sleeping pill) right after orgasm.

I was kinda confused by this until I found out that REM sleep is associated with sexual arousal. Sexual arousal = REM sleep or REM sleep = Sexual arousal, not sure which it is or if it matters. Therefore, I need to have the ability to be sexually aroused to have REM sleep, or sleep at all. I still don't know why I get sleepy as an erection goes away, maybe that is just me.
