Huh, lying awake now, 4 AM three hours after sex, but at least glad to know I'm not the only one this happens to. Can't have morning sex because of the kids, so no solution there.

The feeling I have after sex is most comparable to being on some sort of drug, ( I couldn't tell you which one because I've never tried) but I often hear about being high as a euphoria. I have even been asked if I am on drugs immediately prior to sex because I am already anticipating the outcome. ( my partner is gone often so some days we almost have to plan our alone time). I feel like that for hours after sex and just want to socialize (particularly with my parter if he is available. However, he works long hours and often falls right asleep. I feel weird and creepy being so excited and wound up afterwards.. Is this normal? Or is it a reaction to lack of sexual stimulation? (The duration of excitement is increased by the amount of stimulation) Sometimes I feel bad because I end up on the phone with a girlfriend because I am too wound up to relax. Help me!! I just want to snuggle and sleep

I've had this problem for years. I used to try and nap in the afternoon. My husband would lie down beside me. We did not nap, but ended up having sex instead. Afterwards, he was the one to nap while I got up with a burst of energy - no longer tired. Now we are in our 50's. We still have amazing sex. But afterwards he is sleepy and I am not. Even if I'm exhausted when going to bed, I'm unable to sleep after sex. I always orgasm so that is not the issue.

I usually just get up and watch TV for a bit. Then I can go to sleep. Don't know why, but it is what it is.

Okay everyone there is an explanation for this. Some of us are hardwired differently in terms of how our hormones react to sexual experience. Usually after orgasm, one's prolactin levels rise in order to supress the dopamine rish that occurs during and after orgasm. Prolactin is the hormone produced by both males and females and is also the hormone produced in high quantities by women when they are breastfeeding. It actually causes lactation in high levels. However, for the majority of the population prolactin is a supressant of dopamine to balance and calm the body. Too much dopamine can cause issues to the body.

So the explanation for why some of us can't fall asleep is that our prolactin levels don't rise as high as our significant other's. That's why they fall sweetly to sleepwith their prolactin doing its job while we lay wide awake for hours until the dopamine subsides by itself with little help from our prolactin. But don't blame the hormone, it is actually our pituitary glad in the brain that is responsible for this. It doesn't signal to release the hormone. Why? Because everyone is different!

I know this because I am actually a prolactinoma patient and have delved into studying the function of our brain, hormones, nero-transmitters and edrocrinological systems.

I would suggest that you find a compromise in terms of timing for sex. Lack of sleep can be very destructive to the body and mind, not to mention to your relationship with your partner. Both need to be happy & healthy!

Cheers!

Alex

I have the same issue... Female, 26 year old.
Reading some of the replys a thought came to me...
Usually when I masturbate, I do it several times consecutively, and I can do it for more than an hour straight. Perhaps there is something about an extra stimulation that influences our difficulty on falling asleep later... Is there anyone else that feels insatiable when masturbating?

Alex! Thank you for the thought!
I think it makes a lot of sense!
So what you're saying is that we need to respect our body and adapt to it, right?

I was allways worried that perhaps I could have a, i dont know... "better" orgasm that would give some relief and I would get tired and sleepy, so I kept on masturbating and having what I thought were "smaller" orgasms.. I got very frustraded with myself thinking that perhaps I wasnt doing it right...
My gynecologist said I have low levels os progesterone... Do you think it could be related?
So your explanation gives me a lot os comfort, thanks again

I am 45 year old female and after sex I can't sleep the entire night, so the next day I am a mess. Seems like no one has an answer for it. I feel like if I mention it to my doctor she will think I am crazy. It takes me a good two days to be normal again and be able to sleep.

I've had this problem since I was in my 40s. I'm a 64 year old male and it's meant that my wife and I have had far less sex over the years than would have otherwise been the case, mainly confining it to times when I wasn't working the next day. Looking back I feel short changed and wish I'd managed to find an answer. I haven't but it's the first time I've found out that other people have the same problem. Surely it can't be beyond the wit of man (or woman) to find a solution.

Hi
the reason is changing in hormones. and its simple that why we cant sleep after sex like others. cuz ppl structures are different to each others. ppl like you guys must have hair loss, photon phobia, sound fobia, dark circles around eyes, body ache, super extremely fatigue, etc...
+ the solution is first of all go to doctor for approving some medical tests about hormones. check Vit D, vit D counts on hormones also. it must be in lack. so fix it. check measurement of MELATONIN it must be in low rate and check CORTISOL rate it must be high. cortisol is the main key causes many those issue. its the hormone who tell body about fake anxiousness and fake awakening. its more like animals in night who they are very awaken to protect themselves. so check all this and more hormones and TALK WITH YOUR DOCTOR about those result. ++ DONT FORGET to use B-Complex vitamin it cause the relaxation u cant believe it. b6 and b1 most effective on this problem for emergency mode. even vit C helps to drop cortisol rate a bit.

IMPORTANT: Herbal aids: Coriander & Lettuce.

sorry about my language, im not professional in EN but i tried at least. didnt i?

mohammed
with regards.

Additional:
1-Melatonin rate must be in normal range. if it lacks in your body it cause insomnia so if the melatonin is in low rate you have to make it normal.
2-Cortisol rate must be in normal range too. for those who have insomnia after sex or ejaculation, both, it raise so much high. so try a solution from your doctor to decrease it.
3-Prolactin is a factor affect on sleep but not like cortisol. so dont forget prolactin rate in blood test.
