Hi, I just wanted to give you all HAPPY STORY and give you all hope. I lost my first baby at 25 weeks of pregnancy due to large fibroid (9 cm). I had myomectomy January 2008 and they removed large fibroid and one 2 cm one. In August 2009 I gave birth to a most precious little girl and she is now 15 months old and I just found out last week that we are expecting again. So I just wanted to let you all know that it is possible, you just have to let it go and ask God for help. He will not let you down. Just pray and be patience.

Does any one have any average bleeding times post-op? I was given Lupon before my surgery to shrink everything down, I had a lot of problems with bleeding from the fibroid. It was very light for the first week or two but now it seems to be picking up so I am hoping it is just my cycle trying to adjust. We are hoping to ttc in May after we heal :-)

I had a myomectomy in November 2010. And I was told by my doctor that I had to wait 6-8 weeks before I am able to have alittle ttc and if I was trying to get pregnant to start on a fertility plan. Well three weeks ago I had a little ttc and took a home pregnancy test and it came back positive. Is it possible that I am pregnant, because I thought it took medication anf time to conceive. Can anyone answer this reply for me.

Hello,
In 2005 I had a myomectomy to remove 5 large fibroids from - two of them 15cm in size. My doctor said they filled two "kidney bean" surgery containers. Although I was 36 at the time, we didn't try getting pregnant until 2 yrs later. In 2007, I got pregnant but it was a blighted ovum and I miscarried at 7 weeks. I got pregnant again a year later in 2008 and had another m/c at 8 week this time. Six months later in 2009, I got pregnant a 3rd time and this time m/c'd almost right away at 6 weeks.

It took me almost 2 years to get pregnant again and now in 2011, I'm very happy to report that I am 21 weeks pregnant at age 42. We're having a boy! Unfortunately, my fibroids have grown back but smaller and I now have 2 fibroids at 6cm and 2 at around 4 cm. This is causing me some pain where the fibroids are, but I'm optimistic that they shouldn't cause me more trouble than abdominal pain. After everything we've been through, we're just grateful that things are going well this time - and we're finally getting our take home baby!

I just wanted to share my story and let you know that it is possible to get pregnant, it just may take awhile. Also, don't wait more than 9 months to try after your surgery if you're already in your late 30s/early 40's. I have a feeling that it wouldn't have been so hard if the fibroids hadn't to start to grow back (and my age), but you should be confident that your myomectomy will help you get pregnant in the future. Just make sure you have a really good surgeon who has done several myomectomies before and you don't have many scars (drink lots of water!). I'm in Philadelphia and saw Dr. Carl Della Badia at Drexel OB/GYN who I'm eternally grateful. :)

Hi there,

I have just read your post and I really wonder if you were able to get pregnant after your myomectomy? I just suffered a miscarriage 2 weeks ago which my doctor suspects was caused by my fibroids (I am scheduled for a myo after 5 weeks). I am 39 now and I am desperated to have a child but I fear that I could not be able to get pregnant again from what has happened. I still grieve the loss of my baby (I was on my 13th week). It just gets harder each day and the thought of not having the chance again really scares me.

Please let me know how are you getting on now. It has been 2yrs+ since you've posted your comment. I hope you would still read mine.

Thank you

Hi there,

I'm Janice. I have just read your post and your story really inspires me. I just suffered a miscarriage 2 weeks ago which my doctor suspects was caused by my fibroids-I have at least 3 with the largest at around 4cm. (I am scheduled for a myo after 5 weeks). I am 39 now and I am desperate to have a child but I fear that I could not be able to get pregnant again from what has happened recently. I still grieve the loss of my baby (I was on my 13th week). It just gets harder each day and the thought of not having the chance again really scares me.

By the way, how old were you when you got pregnant? I also fear that my age will make everything more difficult.

Hope you could send a reply.

Thank you

My thoughts are prayers are with you.  I am 41 - have been trying to get pregnant for several years - finally saw a specialist and found that I had a huge fibroid, blocked tubes, two cysts on the outside of my tubes and endometriosis on the outside of my uterus.  I had the surgery two weeks ago and everything was removed and my doctor doesnt think I should not have any problems now. I cannot imagine your grief over the loss of your baby, but I share the same fears from the surgery and of wanting a baby so desperately.  My period was due a week after my surgery - so it's a week late.  I have read that it can take time to get your cycle back to normal, which stresses me because it delays this process.  I will talk to my doctor this week and hopefully find resolution to this new road block - I am anxious to start trying but I know I need to be patient and have faith.  Good luck and God Bless!

Hi,

I know this was posted over a year ago but I was just diagnosed with the same size fibroid yesterday. It was awful...they did the ultrasound then called me into the dr. office she said the fibroid was so big they need to send me for an mri to see if there are any other fibroids floating around that they can't see before they perform the myomectomy. I'm so scared and can't stop crying that this has happened to me but I know that won't solve anything. I'm just broken right now....married for 5 months want to have a baby and I'm 36. So reading your story made me think I had to contact you to see how everything went for you. Thanks
