I'm so frustrated! I've been seeing my gyn for pelvic pain, had ultrasound-the tech said she saw small cysts (1 on each ovary, less than 1 cm-this was day 10 of my cycle) but dr. that read the results said "within normal limits", yet my pain continues. When my dr. told me the results he also mentioned every other organ in the same vicinity that could cause the pain, and I reminded him that he did say he saw the beginnings of endo last June during lap to remove 7 cysts (3 and 7 cm on ovaries and smaller ones on fallopian tube). So now I am awaiting an appt to see a GI to rule out all the other possibilities but my gut says this is female related-although I will admit that there have been some changes from the other end as well.

So over the last few months my period has been getting lighter (i'm used to flooding), closer together (but still within normal range-used to be 35 days like clockwork, heavy for days 1-3, light for days 4 & 5, spotting on 6- now 27 days-light all days and last month only lasted 2 days), and each one for the past 3 months has started with a sticky brownish blood/discharge (almost like clots/strings) for a few days before any real bleeding starts. This month I noticed some brown specks when I used the bathroom before the brown discharge started. Everything I found on line said brown blood is normal-but it's not normal for ME! I've had it happen occasionally at the end of a period but never at the beginning. Not to mention that this whole time I have cramps and wake up every morning feeling like I'm going to start my period. Could these changes be related to endo? Could it be getting worse? Does this all sound like typical homone changes for a 34 year old (b-day was in April)? What else could it be-I'm beginning to think it's all in my head!

TIA for any thoughts!

Just because you can’t find the cause doesn’t mean it’s in your head. Your doctor was right to check other things but “female” because other things could be messing with your periods and ovulation. Having cysts on ovaries could mean that instead of releasing an egg, the sac that releases the egg doesn’t open and the egg doesn’t get out, you don’t ovulate and the sac turns into a cyst.

There are many other things that could be causing menstrual problems. For example, thyroid gland is a very important gland in the body. It doesn’t just regulate metabolism but it could affect the work of other glands and production and release of other hormones.
Any thyroid disorder (like hyper or hypothyroid) could be messing with your period, so could prolonged exposure to stress meaning prolonged exposure to cortisol high levels, etc

So, it is not necessarily “female” things that could be influencing periods. Endometriosis could be an option but I reckon that you should have an ultrasound during your period then, is that right?

Anyway, I hope you soon figure out what this could be, so you can treat it and make it better. Good luck!
