A cone biopsy is a surgical procedure used for diagnosing and treating problems in the cervix. It is performed after one or more smear tests and a colposcopy (microscope) exam show abnormal cells on your cervix. The cone biopsy means removing tissue, to have it checked in the lab. You should get prepared fro this procedure to prevent problems with anesthesia. It is recommended not to eat or drink anything after midnight on the night before the biopsy. When you finish it, somebody will have to drive you back home, because you will not be fully concentrated under influence of anesthesia.
