Like all of you here, I have had long term bleeding. In 2004, when I was 23, I began to have periods that would last 6 weeks and then I wouldn't bleed for 2 months, then it would all start over again. That went on for atleast 8 years and then within the last 5 years, I began dropping blood clots almost the size of tennis balls and the bleeding would only stop for a day or two every month.
This past Easter (April 16, 2017), I went to the hospital because I started bleeding so bad that I was going through pad after pad. I dropped 7 or 8 blood clots in that night and I went through about 5 pairs of underwear. I must have bled out about a quart or so of blood that night. At the hospital, the doctor who examined me was about 70 years old and she was not that concerned about what I was going through. She referred me to a local female Gyno and sent me on my way.
They drew blood from my arm and did a full work-up in the lab. Everything was mostly normal except for my blood sugar which was a little high. Then after seeing the Gyno's PA (who was super nice), she sent an order for me to have an Ultra-Sound done. About a week later, I had the Ultra Sound and the bleeding had gone down to about what I normally have.
Today, I went to the Gyno's office to talk about the Ultra Sound. I was fully expecting to hear the worst. She said my hemaglobin was normal, my thyroid is normal, and there were no ovarian cysts. The only thing that seemed to concern her was the thickness of my Uterus. The thickness of a normal uterus is 10cm; mine is currently 21cm. She said that this can cause some abnormal bleeding.
At this point, it is still not really known what is causing this, but my gyno wants to send me for a D&C so she can get a clearer idea of what's going on. She doesn't believe that I have ovarian cancer because I am too young (35). However, that can't be ruled out.
What it comes down to is this; you can't really know what's taking place until you get to a doctor and that doctor begins running tests which can help figure out where the problem is coming from. It seems we are all having the same symptoms and experience with this and every one of us has had doctors who don't seem to care.
