When I was 12 years old, I was diagnosed with Congenital Kyphosis. The curvature in my spine progressed from "ok" to "really bad" as soon as I hit puberty, the doctor's recommended surgery which would stop the curve from getting worse. I was all for it because then maybe I wouldn't get made fun of in school anymore and be called "The Hunchback". After my first surgery at age 13, I was in the hospital for a while and out of school for quite a while. I couldn't really do a whole lot, because I never felt pain-free. At age 16, I had a second surgery due to a staph infection in one of my rods from the first surgery. I still experienced a lot of pain when it would get really cold outside... seeing as I live in the Midwest, it is cold quite often! At age 18, I opted to have a the rods removed from my spine....I think that may have been the BIGGEST mistake of my life. Since then, the pain is constantly there and I can find no relief. The doctors do not want to operate because I only have 2 disks left below the one that I am having issues with. I do not know what to do...any ideas on how to deal with the pain? Thank you!
