Hi I kicked some coral while scuba diving. I scraped my ankle and had about 8 small grazes (1cm by 2cm was the biggest). I did it on the 7/7/11 and it has not improved AT ALL! It still looks the same. I usually heal really well. I fell over and got carpet burn 2 days before that and that healed up like a week ago. Usualy i heal quickly but not this time. It is really red and itchy and sometimes becomes hot and raised. Is this normal? Should i just let it go and wait for it to heal? Thanks for the help :)

Get to a medical practitioner immediately! or ASAP! The "really red and itchy and sometimes becomes hot and raised" highly indicates an infection. You may need an antibiotic. You should consider this an emergency. Having injured yourself on coral in the sea you were exposed to microcritters from an entirely different environment than turf dwellers. Your body has no stockpile of antibodies for marine microcritters and may need some help.

Hi, thanks... I'll see what i can do :) Considering i have already spent 18 days in hospital from septicemia, im assuming that isn't going to help. Should it be healed by now if there was no infection? Thanks so much :)

Any injury should always show some kind of positive progression in healing over several days. Any stagnation or failure toward healing is always a bad sign and the telltale signs of ANY infection should never wait to be checked by a medical professional! Those signs are: sharp of acute pain when touched or pressed (except muscle tissue), warmth/heat, itching indicates healing is taking place but only when the are no other signs of infection, puss or whitish drainage is white blood cells that died while fighting an infection, red is bad news, raised anything is bad news. Raised, red, hot and acute pain is a dead giveaway there is an infection at the injury site.
