You should definitely tell your parent. I know this was written a year ago, but hopefully you told your mum by now. As a mother, I would feel terrible if my child was having these symptoms and didn't tell me. I would want to help find a solution.

Hi. I am in the same boat as you.... I too have been anemic for quite some time. No matter how many pills I take, nothing changes. I too have issues with my period and found out that too have something to do with my deficiency. I hope things work out for you, but i am going to keep researching....

You can try Garden of Life raw protein (plain)...it gives me a lot of energy. Enzymatic Therapy Ultimate Iron is also a good iron. Drink spinach with orange juice or kale and oranges (blended). :)

Copper is a form of anemia. If you have low copper, your body can't make hephaestin which is comprised mostly of copper that carries iron through the intestinal barrier. Have your Dr. check your copper levels and see where you are at. Also cerulplamin needs to be checked if your copper is low.

There is a B12 anemia and a cupremia caused by low copper. You should have those checked because often low copper causes low iron. Copper is the main ingredient in Hephaestin which is the protein that carries iron accross the intestinal barrier. There are thousands of people with this, but it is not recognized as a medical cond. at this time. My 2 sons and I both have it. One son was in bad shape before we found a solution. If they find you have low copper and low ceruloplasmin(copper carrier protein) supplement with ionic boron, but only a drop or two at first. There are documents on the government website talking about the effects of Boron on Ceruloplasmin if you want to study up on it.

i think you also have endo, you wouldnt know for sure unless you had surgery which sucks but your symptoms sound quite similar to mine. i am both anemic and have endo. doctors suck, totally agreeable, its hard to find good ones who really care. my doctors havent said but i really think endo and anemia have a lot to do with one another.

Iron deficency test: Go to the mirror and pull your lower eyelid and see if the color is red or flesh color. If its flesh colored you are lacking enough iron and should take a herbal iron like Floradix. It will take a month to see a difference. Iron carrys oxygen in your blood and if you dont have it you will feel tired, cold hands and feet, headaches, RLS, dull brittle hair, brittle nails, poor sleep, pale skin (see thru), shortness of breath, fatigue, poor concentration, low mood, ringing in the ears, cracks in the corner of the mouth, dizziness, fainting, sore tongue and canker sores oh and pale mucous membranes in lower eyelid. I have had bad headaches for most of my adult life. I have very heavy menstral cycles. I have lived all over Canada and the US and every doctor I have seen has told me to get more sleep, exercise, take Advil... I had a facial recently and the Esthetician told me it looked like I had a hormone imbalance due to excess hair on my chin (For the past 10 years I have spent hours in front of the mirror with the tweezers but I had never really thought about it). When I mentioned this to my doctor she said not to worry- I'm just getting older like everyone else ( I'm 39 years old). I was not satisfied with her response. I found a doctor who does hormone testing and guess what? I have elevated levels of estrogen and testosterone and low levels of progesterone. This explains my facial hair and heavy periods as well as a few other symptoms. Blood work following this assessment has shown that I am also anemic - most likely caused by heavy periods. My new doctor has me on progesterone and iron supplements and some other goodies from the health food store to help remove excess estrogen. Bottom line, if you are anemic due to heavy menstration than that needs to be addressed otherwise you will continue to struggle with anemia. Find a doctor who can help with this specialised medicine - good luck - they are hard to find because most family doctors find hormone imbalances too complicated.

I can relate to the feeling unrealiable, and it being noted as such...it took me a long to accept my health as being what it is, embrace it but dont take advantage of it...those who have their health do not understand how illness affects one's entire outlook and their self worth. Do what you can when you can, dont let someone else's lack of understanding/ignorance define you or devalue you. Hope you are feeling better soon and are able to gain some control of your health situation.

I was diagnosed with Severe Anemia May 2013 and my fingernails were quite brittle and breaking off at the quick (and painful). I did as my Doctor said and began taking Multi-Vitamin with Iron every day at meal (suppertime for me). Now 5 months later my nails are coming back normal and latest blood test reveals I am still anemic but not as bad as 5months ago. I also take VITAMIN C with my multi-vitaimn/Iron as Doctor said taking a Vitamin C along with iron will help it absorb better in your system. I also had DAILY HEADACHES that are beginning to go away. I also had sinus issues and bought a HoneyWell Warm Mist Humidifer I run at night in bedroom. All these combined seem to be helping me. I hope it helps someone else.

I got anemia as a complication from taking hormones and bleeding excessively for a month straight.  For three weeks in a row I experienced multi-day bone crushing headaches.  Every step I took felt like a bowling ball was rolling around in my head!  After landing in the hospital for lung clots (another lovely side effect from the hormones), I quit taking estrogen and at the same time starting taking iron supplements twice a day.  I did not experience any headaches after that until just after i got my first period, then another headache but not as bad as before.  As of yesterday my iron level has increased just slightly after 1.5 months.  I'm going to switch to slo FE to see if I can improve my iron level faster, and I'm having a uterine ablation to help with the heavy flow that's perpetuating anemia.  Also, i think I'll treat myself to a steak tonight!
