My friend has crohn’s disease. I think he was diagnosed with this problem few years ago. However, he has been experiencing lately some skin problems. I think that it is in form of eczema. I would like to know if this could be caused by his basic disease. Does anyone know this? Thanks in advance.

Hi. Skin rash can be common for people with Crohn’s disease. 40% of people with this disease can develop skin rash. The most common locations are around mouth and around anus. Skin rashes are not unique for this disease. They can manifest in form of erythema nodosum, pyoderma gangrenosum and necrotizing vasculitis of the small blood vessels. Sometimes, skin rash can be the first sign of Crohn’s disease. The treatment of the basic disease must be done. You cannot treat only rash without regarding to Crohn’s disease. I hope this helps.
