I think that there is a lot of negativity surrounding the depo injection and I can understand why. A lot of people are misinformed about the problems that it may cause, my problem was that they did not tell me that it could lead to bone problems and being that I already have them at 24 I think that is a major issue.
I know a lot of you on the board have been trying for a while but I want to try and elay some of those fears!!!
I came off the injection in January after just one go at it, my partner is older than me and we had decided on no children so it seemed okay to me. Since then we have decided to go ahead and try in the knowledge that it may take quite some time to get to the right stage after the injections (especially after all the horror stories that are out there!!!!
I had about 6 weeks of no periods after that I have now had two periods, although longer in length I can say that my opk's (ovulation tests) have tested positive this month! Although we are not planning on getting out bfp for a year at least it seems that my body is coming back round. So clearly it can come back and my nurse's sister has two normal cycles after beingon the depo for two years and then concieved. As well as a good few stories I have read when researching myself.
I think the best thing for me was realising that everybody has different bodies and since I have never tried to have children before I do not know if I do have any conditions that will effect my fertility. The doctors have advised that after about 9 months if you are younger it is reasonable to assume that you could get tests done.
Best advice I can give is to enjoy the process and keep in mind that everyday is closer to baby day, one way or another you can have children... even if you have to adopt a less fortunate child and love that. be positive and relax!!!

I am thirty years old, and was on Depo for 9 years before losing my health insurance last summer. I have been off for 11 months and my period has not returned. I am not interested in having more children, but I am concerned about my health. I cannot afford to see my doctor- should I be worried? ?

I'm 19 years old and was only on depo for 10 months in '09 and it's been a year since my last period. I was worried so in May I went and talked to my doctor about still not getting my period and she acted as if it was no big deal. Today i went to another doctor and they told me there was a 60% chance I could be infertile. I am so angry and upset that my regular doctor didn't tell me any of this before putting me on the shot. I am truly scarred that I will never be able to have children.

Hello! I've been taking depo from the age of 13 to 23! I have never experienced any side effects and when I got off last year, my period returned a month later and has been regular since! If u did ur research u would have found that it takes a year to two years to get pregnant after stopping! Ur body has not been functioning as it normally would so yea it's going to take some time to reset itself! I have been reading all of these posts about all the bad things and how the doctor didn't tell u this or that! Well even if the doctor didn't tell u, there is information out there! All forms of birth control are synthetic drugs and are altering your body somehow so blaming the drug is BS! I have had several friends that became pregnant immediately after depo so it's not the drug, it's how ur body reacts to it! Every person's body is different! It will happen when it happens! I'm not currently trying to get pregnant but I've had fertility testing as well as bone density testing after coming off depo and all were good and normal! Thousands of women have been on and are currently on depo! If statistics showed a significant amount of infertility, it would be taken off the market by now! And if these doctors everyone is going to misinform and omit all this info then it would probably be wise to find a new doctor!

I was on depo for 2 years then switched to something else due to the calcium warnings. I started my period again one month later. After a year I started depo again and was on it for another year before I heard from a friend that she hadn't started her period and it had been 2 years. I am now on the pill and I got my period back after a month this time too. My husband and I have not tried to get pregnant yet but I do know of 1 woman who never got her period back even 5 years later. I wasn't regular before I went on birth control and I have tried just about every method out there. I would have to tell women to stick with the old fashion pill method. Its been around the longest so I consider it to be the most trust worthy method. Then again, I am not the type to try something while its still considered "new." If you don't think you can remember a pill everyday then try the ring or the patch. Both of those methods worked well for me and I really didn't have any of the bad side effects. If there is any chance you may want kids one day, stay away from depo. And ladies I have told several different health care providers what I have heard from other women and everytime I tell a new one they tell me they've never heard of that before. Make sure you pass this info along to every woman you know, maybe 1 day the company producing depo will actually take another look at this product and properly advise us. It wouldn't surprise me at all if one day we saw a class action law suit against them.

ADOPT! There are plenty of children in the world who have no home. Why go to all this trouble and spend money to bring another into this world? If you weren't meant to have children that was just God's plan for you. Don't go against nature and force your body to have a baby. If you can't have children naturally then use your motherly instincts to raise a child who may not have come from you, but was meant to be yours..

Hi, I was on depo for 6 months. I bled all the time and hated it....so I switched to the mini pill for a month but stopped taking it...it took me a month to get a period....my husband and I have been trying since I went off of bc to get pregnant for our 2nd child...still no luck but, not worried. My sister in law was on depo for a year and it took her about 6 to 8 months to conceive with her 2nd child. Depends on the person. Good luck to you all :)

I think that a person (if they want) should use all the resources available to them if they want to have a child (if they are having trouble) It is their money. If this person has tried all her options and still not able then she can consider other options. My sister was told for like 10 years that she would never have children. So she adopted her son...but she now has two boys that she has given birth too.

See I thought this also. However, back in November of 2011 I lost my baby at eight months. The doctors are still not sure what caused it. I was perfectly healthy and everything was fine. The Depo shot is linked to causing a thin uterus so it may be possible my uterus was to thin to support the baby. I have not found out yet, but it could be a possiblity. There are ways to make it thick again though unless you have had tuberculosis.

I got on the depo in oct of 2007 after I had my second child...I stopped the depo in april of 2011....since then my husband and I have been trying for our third child and we haven't conceived yet...we're starting to think it might not ever happen. If anyone knows anything that might help our chances of conceiving please let me know.
