The hymen refers to the skin just outside your vagina. It doesn't cover the whole vagina (except in rare cases). It doesn't "break" or "pop", it stretches .. it can definitely tear and bleed, but this isn't necessary. Go slow, make sure you are ready and turned on (or have lube). Honestly, you might have better luck touching your clit while masturbating than sticking a finger inside.
There are two holes - the urethral opening (pee hole) and the vaginal opening.
You may have stretched and tore your hymen then, but it shouldn't change anything. It can definitely tear or stretch painfully with tampons. That's what happened to me!
