I wasn't diagnosed with bronchitis 1 week ago have been taking medicine to clear up and now my four year old is coughing like a very deep cough did he catch it and do I need to see A Dr right away?

I live in the northeast of the US and my wife and I had a terrible cough during the summer. We went to the doctor in July and she said it was a virus that was going around. She also said it might take several months to go away. Since it was a virus there was nothing she could give us to kill it but to take whatever over the counter cough medicine worked for us. That was back in July and I'm just now feeling like it has cleared up.
If your 4 year old is having problems I think it would be wise to take him/her to the doctor. There are things that can make him/her feel better at least while waiting for it to go away. Or it could be something else entirely.
