Sorry Jack. You are wrong. Percocet and Percodan are not the same! Percocet has acetaminophen (APAP), and Percodan has aspirin (ASA). Jill

"Wow,,, I have extreme back pain, lower tail bone upper neck and back. I have had surgery on upper back, replaced a disk, a few screws and titanium plate. Lower back pulgeing disk. next one below is hurniated. and tail bone broken. Now they say no surgery can fix. I have been on percosets now for 2 yrs at least. before that it was vicodine. I take anywhere from 6 to 10 pills a day (percocets), thats it. I can not do anti flamitorys I am alergic. (sorry for poor speeling) Besides I know this medicine has changed my mind, and who i am, which is a bummer. I do not nor have I ever gotten high from this medicine. probably because i acctually need it? Not sure. I hear others say, oh that would knock me out. I does not. It hardly even helps the pain anymore. I just cant believe, that I have livied in this much pain for 5 yrs, with no real help. I have a doctor. a Pain doctor. been threw physical theraphy several times. Im done. Now they want a painfull diskcogram. oh boy. more pain for me!! doctor just threated me today. if i dont get diskcogram, they will take percocets away and replace with morphin. What the hell.. I dont care what they give me, as long as it works. they give you medicne, then make you feel like a freaking drug addict. Which is getting to be total BS. If I wanted street drugs for my pain, that would be alot easier to get, that going threw all this c**p with doctors. and Im not getting any better.. just odler faster. Now for all you medical people out there. Whyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a reply to everyone talking about getting high on the endocet (mostly the poster who takes half a pill every four hours and gets loopy).
I have been taking these for a week now. I take 3-4 pills a day, 1 every 6 hours and then 1 in the middle of the night if the pain wakes me up. I have been told by many people it's too much and that I will become dependent on them.
The thing is I haven't. The pills (combined with Ibuprofen) lower the amount of pain I'm in, but only a little. I still get massive head pains even with them in my system. Taking these pills, I could easily move to 2 every 4 hours and not get high at all. I would still be in pain in fact, just a lot less. I think the reason why some people do not get high with higher doses in them is due to the amount of pain they're in. Pain is a very sobering thing, so if you're in extreme pain and take enough pills to still be in pain but just less pain, then you're not likely to get loopy because the pills are too busy fighting the pain. Your body is too busy coping with it to get high from such a dose. You would need even more, enough to practically eliminate the pain and then some for the high effects. Typically you're only prescribed enough to take an edge of the pain. It's still there so getting high from pain pills when you're on the right ones legitametly is unusual.

This message is to Rowdie. I cannot agree more with the physicians assistant who wrote you. You are at risk of dying if you keep taking those pills. Have you tried acupuncture? Have you done regular physical therapy? Those are options that can help you tremendously without putting your life at risk. I speak from experience. I can happily and proudly say that I have avoided narcotics at all cost since my serious injury and I am walking proof of what a regular physical therapy program and acupuncture can do to make life not only tolerable but worth living. Get to someone as quickly as you can that not only does not, but refuses to write prescriptions for narcotics. That someone would be a doctor who does physical rehabilitation, not pain management. They are not easy to find but your life will greatly improve and the long term prognosis will be much more favorable. I have worked in the field of addictions as a professional and you are in serious trouble.

Haha. I am really enjoying reading these posts. No WONDER so many young people die every year from drug overdoses; most of you don't know sh*t from shinola when it comes to controlled drugs. But carry on --- I need a good laugh!!

I would like to tell the "guest" with the terrible back who has been taking 6-10 percocet for years and they don't help much anymore, talk to your doctor about methadone as a pain med. My chronic pain doctor actually prescribed a fnetanyl patch, 100 mg, AND liguid morphine with a dropper to dose myself whenever I had breakthrough pain. It's a miracle I didn't kill someone in the car, or that I kept my job, I was so stoned it was unbelieveble. Then I heard two ladies talking about Methadone for chronic pain. I asked the doctor to let me try it, and that was 10 years ago. I am still on the original dose, as you don't build a tolerance like you do with standard opiods. It cuts the pain to where I have been able to continue working fulltime for 10 years. It is a miracle drug in my opinion and has a stereotype with it about it being for junkies that is so wrong; it keeps people from getting excellent pain relief because they don't want to tell anyone they take methadone. That is stupid. I hope you are still reading here and will check it out. BTW, I also have 10 mg endos for breakthrough, which I only use as needed, like if I want to go to the zoo, or to the mall or whatever.

I was writing in response to the 10-24 endocets a day, sadly I do understand what you are going through, I had been taking painkillers for 10 years and well your body just gets used to the medication, something with dulling or killing the opoid receptors in your brain allows you to take so many, I like you hate pills and finally just stopped altogether it's been about 4 months but I notice a big change in my attitude and behavior, most people including myself do not notice the way the drugs had affected me because it is a gradual kind of change in yourself so it is not as noticable, but someone who hasn't seen you in years or whatever would definety notice it, ask someone honestly for the honest truth, I understand that pain is no fun sometimes a clear thought is a challenge to do, when your mind is racked with pain and drugs. I am glad I stopped and have found that my tolerence for pain is coming back, granted it has been a long slow painful agonizing trip but I can feel myself getting better. The other thing with taking a lot of medication over time is your tolerence for pain goes way down and the tolerence for the medication goes way up so it is just a very long roller coaster ride. I understand how much you probably hurt and I wish for you, that you were pain free. Just thought I would give my insight into this matter, thank you all for reading.

I've read several posts on here saying that the number of endocets taken per day is lethal and that there is no way this person is taking as many pills as stated. Now, without a doubt, long term exposure so such quantities are not going to be good for you. But, as a former drug addict, I know from experience that larger quantities per day are very realistic. I used to take 7 or 8 endocet 10/325 at a time to get high, and would do that 2 or 3 times a day when possible. Its unfortunate that someone has such pain issues as to require the amounts stated, and that their tolerance has grown to a point where such larger quantities of medication are necessary. I am sorry to hear that you have to take as much as you do, and for your own long term safety, try and find some alternatives if possible, although I know that isn't necessarily realistic in todays world. Just remember, a second opinion will never hurt...

Just to answer the original question... Endocet and percocet are identical. Both are manufactured by endo pharmaceuticals. Percocet is the brand name and endocet is the generic version. Of course there are many other brands of generic percocet (oxycodone w/apap), and each person has their own opinion of the effectiveness of each, but when it cones to endo and perc, they are exactly the same. Same manufacturer, same formulation, same drug. One is just cheaper.

Rowdie if you are taking as much pain meds as you say than you are insane and your doc is a quack. You are getting high if you take that much and you will die eventually if you dont stop... :'(

I agree that anyone taking that much pain medication has a problem wether they want to admit it or not. I would really like to know where you find these doctors. I was involved in an accident 3 years ago where I was crushed between a large delivery truck and a dock plate. It left me with a ruptured disk at the L4-L5. As I already know that I have an addictive personality, I refraimed from taking pain meds for the first year and half. Until I just could not function with the pain anymore. I had to switch from lortab to endocet rescently, but lucky if my gp will write me 90 pills a month. And by the way they do give me a buzz, usualy 2 hours after taking themeds. Is that unusual?

4000 mg of APAP is the limit for 24 hours, not 7.5 grams jesus. This is all over the internet if you look it up, hell its even right on the back of a bottle of Tylenol (8 pills @ 500mg each in 24 hours). If you are taking that much a day it is almost double the limit and your liver is working overtime to try and keep up, and eventually it won't be able to. I hope you are checking your eyes for jaundice every day.
If you need that much oxycodone every day, ask for roxicodone or time release OP's.

To all the people who doubt rowdie - you are wrong! This woman has been taking morphine and endocets for many many years for her pain - ever heard of your body builing a tolerance? As a recovered drug addict whose poison was opiates I can tell you that taking 60mg and 10-12 endocet daily is definately NOT a lethal doage. Over the years her body has become accustom and has built a tolerance to these opiates. At the peak of my own drug abuse I would take 30-40 percocets and 200mg of morphine or 8 to 9 80mg ocycotins and never ever even came close to having an overdose of such. As I've experienced what these drugs can do to your body I certainly wouldn't suggest taking that much medication in that form, but if that is what is required to quell the pain - well then, that is whats required.

***edited by moderator*** web addresses not allowedAnd stop bickering.. Max daily dosage AS PER THE MANUFACTURER is 12 tabs of the 5/325 in a 24 hr timespan. Now I dont doubt you and rowdie are taking 12-24 of the things a day, what I do doubt is that rowdie is also taking morphine on top of it that many pills. I could see a doc ok'ing a MAX of 4 with the morphine and under DIRECT supervision, but not as many as she claim to take while still on a time released morphine medication ... thats too many narcotics/ opiates and would cause a serious problem. the manufacturer of endocet put EXACTLY what can and likely wil happen when an overdose is reached.
To answer the origional op.. Endocet is percocet.. no difference at all just a different name.
