Hello everyone!
I've gotten into a harder running routine, and it has reeked havoc on my digestive system! I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on this!
My routine is to run every weekday morning at 6AM before work on my treadmill. I run different lengths/speeds everyday, but normally go about 2.5 miles. On hard days I go 3 miles. On weekends i do 1 longer run and 1 rest day.
I've been doing this now for at least 4 weeks, and it just seems to be getting worse. I have loose stools & urgency to go in the morning a few hours after running. It's not quite diarrhea, but not exactly "normal". I don't really mind this so much. My stomach seems to feel weird, too, almost just an empty icky feeling. Slightly nauseated, but not bad.
The worst is in the evening, around 5, I start getting stomach/gut aches, bloating & constipated feeling. When I wake up the next morning, the stomach ache is gone and I feel good and ready for my run.
I eat breakfast about 30 minutes after running, normally a banana & whole wheat toast with Peanut butter & jelly. I sit in an office from 8-5, also.
I have ideas why this might be happening, and wanted to get more opinions on this...
-Could be from dehydration... Maybe I'm not drinking enough water during the day causing the constipated feeling.
-Could be what I'm eating...?
-Maybe I can try eating something different or push breakfast back a few hours (I don't know how as I'm starving after my run!).
-Could be from sitting around at work all day, being I start feeling bad at the end of work.
Any ideas or suggestions? What do you think is most likely?
