I have been prescribed dilaudid for my biliary colic pain. My friend had also had problems with gallbladder before and when I told her what I have been prescribed she told me that this drug is highly addictive, even if it is not abused. Is this true? What should I look for then?

Dilaudid is a Hydromorphone hydrochloride, a narcotic analgesic, is prescribed for the relief of moderate to severe pain from many conditions like burns
cancer, heart attack, injury (soft tissue and bone), renal colic and surgery. If you develop high dose tolerance, this can lead to mental and physical dependence with the use of Dilaudid when it is taken repeatedly. Physical dependence can occur after only a few days of narcotic use, although it usually takes several weeks and is causing withdrawal symptoms.
