I am on a morphine pump right now and can't take it anymore. Would Dilaudin be better, my Dr. wants to try it next week. What are the side effects of Dilaudin. Someone please help. Morphine has given me too many side effects. I'm afraid to take Dilaudid.

I am Currently in the hopsital and on Dilaudin for pancreatic problems. I have been reading about the drug and from what I have read it is a derivative of Morphine and is 5-10 times more powerfull. I would check why your doctor thinks that Dilaudin may be safer. I know for me that the pain definitely goes away very quickly and of course it returns and I get another dose. I am getting doses intraveniously every 3 hours. I have realized what it is doing to me and sometimes I just sleep for a while, but I always get a very dry mouth. It could be that your doctor thinks there will be fewer side affects because it is stronger, thus requiring less, but I can sure say I still feel the side affects.

Wonderful that people will share this website info. My experience has been with a dilaudid shot which broke the chain of pain and lesseed it for a long time.
