OMG!! I've had my copper IUD for 11 days now. After insertion I had a heavy period for 6 days and now that it's gone, the mucous discharge is just disgusting. I'm washing and changing panty liners throughout the day!
It's not smelly but it's not comfortable feeling so wet constantly. Waiting to see what my first period will be like.

I think we are in the same boat. If I read all those comments I wouldn't or shouldn't done this in the first place. I have mine inserted last Tuesday and I am still having brownish or light pink discharged and sometimes smell. It is very annoying and bothering me a lot. I called the doctor and she when it will stop? She didn't give me an answer. All she said to me is everyone is different. I am thinking to remove it. Can you or anyone tell me should I wait? Thanks all ladies!!!

Even after I've showered. And cleaned down there really good! After my period it does it too I just don't like it bc of the smell but I haven't turned up pregnant! But I think I wanna go back to the pill

Thank you so much for posting this! I thought I was alone on this. I've had my paragard for 4 yrs now and I've been dealing with all this c**p for years and didn't have insurance or the money to pay for doctors visits. This last yr has gotten way worse! I've gained more weight and I constantly smell like a bloody, rusting penny.. even when I'm not menstruating! These discharges are horrible!! I will be getting mine out soon since I now have insurance

I thought I ws the only one. I ahve had Paragard for 5 years now and recently I have been having a lot of discharge as well to the point that it stains my underwear. It smells worst right after sex and when y cycle is on. I am removing my Paragard next week and getting Nexplanon. With the Paragard my cycle is now 10 days long of heavy bleeding. I hate it

I am a 41 yo mother of one. I have had my Paragard 11 months now, inserted 2 yrs after childbirth. Cycles w iud have never been heavy, no cramping, they are however lasting longer & longer, almost as if having 2 periods in 2 wks. Brown discharge requiring daily pantiliners. Barely require a tampon but for 1/2 day at best. Yellowish discharge and odor noticed as well prior to onset of this "period". Actually feel pregnant this week. Sister has same iud but heavy bleeding. I go to doc next month. And unable to find those strings.I'll update after doc.

I have had the same thing. It has been so bad that I have tried to spray panty-liners with essential oils, I have changed them constantly, stopped wearing tampons. One thing I noticed is that when I go swimming it seems to go away for a little while. Maybe the chlorine neutralizing/killing odor-causing bacteria?

Thank you everyone. I felt so much less isolated when I read these posts. I have found a solution, though I don't know exactly why it works. I read somewhere that the smell could be caused by a chemical reaction due to a ph balance issue. I started drinking a 16 ounce glass of water with an eighth cup of fresh apple cider vinegar. It was very difficult to drink at first but made a difference within a couple of days. Now it actually tastes refreshing. I don't know if I'm just used to it or if I am more "in balance". The other thing I read that directed me to apple cider vinegar talked about improving your gut health (microbiome) to allow your body to purge toxins. Maybe that's why it's helped. All I know is that it's working for me. I hope this helps someone else out there.

How old are you, just curious, because everyone that says they are having terrible cramps and foul smelling discharge are over the age of 30? I'm 18 and I'm just wondering if you're anywhere close to my age so maybe I can just assume that age may be an issue...? Thanks!

I know this post was over a year ago but Thank you for sharing, I started thinking the copper part is the reason as well. As I have friends with the 3 and 5 yr iud and they have never mentioned any of these issues and they are the type to share this info and not be embarrassed to talk about it. I am hoping this gets better but it appears from others its not going to and I can't imagine 10 yrs of this. Did you get yours removed and if so has all the issues subsided?
