Hi. I am having a problem that I don't know much about - my lips are turning darker and darker – they are simply more and more discolored. I also have severe dry mouth most of the time. I also have to mention I have been HIV+ for about 10 years and I’m on huge number of meds (Sustiva, Zerit, Videx EC, Marinol, Testim, Oxandrin). Please let me have your opinion about this, as it is highly embarrassing. Have anyone of you ever heard of lips that are discolored??? Please help.

Well, there could be many causes for it. I’ll assume that your oxygen levels are fine and that your lungs and heart are functioning so we’ll rule that out. On the other hand some hormone abnormalities and iron overload can cause some darkening but I can’t tell you the right cause. I think you should see a dermatologist because he’s the only person that might help pin down what is going on.
