My daughter dislocated her elbow about 6 weeks ago. She has recovered exceptionally well and can fully extend her arm. She is in physio. My question is when do you think or what is the criteria to determine when she can weight bear. She is a competitive gymnast and her coach is pressuring me to allow her to train.
any insight would be great.

I was a competitive gymnast and I broke my elbow, which I know is different, but I think it's similar in the recovery. I just did conditioning and dance and anything that didn't require arms while I had my cast on. When I got it off, I used a brace and just started slowly and carefully training and then worked up. I tried not to put too much strain on my arm and your daughter's coaches should also know to be careful starting out. She should probably wait for a bit to start vault again since that puts the most strain on your elbows (that's what my physical therapist told me) Your daughter should know when to stop. A little bit of pain is okay, but not too much. I don't know how much time it will take to continue training normally, since everyone's different, but she should definitely go to the gym and start training as much as she can. It's not good to completely stop gymnastics while you're injured.
