I am a distance runner for the last 2 years. I never had a coach. But my friend said that running drills are very important. I know it is important for short distances, but what about long distance? Why is it necessary for me? Should I really work on my technique?

Well, I suppose that the most important thing for distance runners is to finish the race without injury. But how about a little extra speed for that sprint finish. Of course it can improve your overall performance. Speed in running depends on stride length and stride frequency. You must increase one of those two or both to accelerate. The drills are high knee running, butt kickers, pull thoughts and bounding. Perhaps you should take a coach as well to perform these drills for you.
