Please help me I'm really scared and confused..

My upper lip has been peeling for about 2 months now. It started with a little rough patch which got a little larger over time and then it started to peel, then it peels again and again. Since the 1st time it started to peel (28th or 29th May) till now, it has peeled for about 4 or 5 times already. It hurts before the skin started peeling, I figured its because the skin was cracking, but most of the time its just peeling skin. I had itchiness once (the most recent peel) but thats the only time it itched.

Today I finally went to the doctor and the doctor asked if it hurts & itches, is my period is regular (not really, about 1 and a half months to two months intervals), and also asked how old am I (19), but didn't say what I got. She said she'll give me a cream to apply and asked me to go back there after a week.  When I was getting my meds my mom asked the nurse and the nurse said its herpes O.O

I totally freaked out because from what I know herpes is an STD. I've never had sex before! I've masturbated before but can that lead to STDs? I also did some research and I think the nurse meant Herpes Labialis. Is this an STD too? My father asked which boy did I kiss but I've never kiss anyone on the lips before, and the only people I've kissed on the cheek are my direct family members! I kissed my dog's fur quite often but never to her mouth..can it be just a skin irritation?

Also, the picture on the Wikipedia page for Herpes shows a blister on the lip and that actually looks like the stuff my mom had on her lips a while back. She's had that twice I think, but when I told her I think I might have contracted this herpes from her (I used her lipsticks before), she didn't believe me and keeps saying that she figures her blisters are caused by allergies towards her makeup products. Is this possible? She didn't see a doctor and let it heal by itself thats why she insists that we're not having the same thing but I read that these blisters will heal in 2-3 weeks so I thought its still possible but she wouldn't believe me. I stopped applying any lipstick or lipgloss on my upper lip since it started feeling rough but it didn't get any better...can allergies towards makeup be the cause?

I read that the herpes thing will be in the body for life and cannot be cured. I'm very disturbed by this and can't help crying when I think about it. I don't want to not be able to get a husband because I can't kiss him without giving him this thing! Please help T.T

Sorry for my long post...just really confused and scared :'(

Hi the herpes virus can be very contagious when the cold sore blisters break out so yes you could of caught them from your mum or the virus could of just been laying dormant in your body and something could of just triggered it like getting rundown and low.
I hope you get it sorted out ok :-)

Hi, something like 90% of the population have been infected by herpes simplex 1 which usually causes cold sores on the lips but can affect genitals too but it is less common there. It is possible you got it from your mum. It is highly contagious but tends to be fairly mild after the first few break outs and it might occur hardly at all. It is not considered an STD if you have it on the lips. Children get it. Often from an innocent kiss from a family member. It is important to try not to pass it on so refrain from kissing and oral sex if you start to feel an outbreak coming on, dont share towels or face cloths, wash your hands after touching it and use an anti viral cold sore cream to reduce the recovery time. but don't stress about it. It is very common. Most adults have had cold sores or are infected by the virus with no sores. And you might not have got it from kissing a boy but it.might be hard to convince your dad. You might want to check the internet for some reliable information for him, and it might be easier for him if you call it a cold sore. People get very uptight when they hear the word herpes. I hope that helps.

Hi, I just wanted to add to my previous post, I just checked and in the US approximately 60% of adults have hsv1, the type that causes cold sores. 25% have HSV2, the type that.causes genital herpes but only a small fraction of infercted people know they have it. It is up to 90% in some other countries.as for will I ever find a husband, there is a 3 in 5 chance that any man you date will also have HSV1. Also,.most people understand that cold sores are common, are not an STD, and usually occur infrequently. there woyldnt be many men who eouldnt want to date you because of an occasional cold sore on the lips. They probably have had a few too. The good news is that your immune system is now activated so you are much less likely to get HSV1 on your genitalia. As long as you look after yourself and stick to simple hygiene rules if you have a breakout it isn't a big deal. take care

Went for a second opinion few weeks ago, this doctor is a more trusted doctor that our family has been seeing. He said its impossible to be herpes because i don't have cold sores. Its probably just an allergic reaction so he gave me a cream to apply twice a day.

I admit i don't apply it regularly but if i do it clears up the peeling (but i dislike the smell of the cream lol).
