Hi I am 27yr old female with 2 children, ages 5 and 15 months. My 15 month old still doesn't sleep through the night, currently working on that at sleep school.
Let me start where it all began
.In sept 05 I had a baby(no 2) only complication was oligohydramnosis (low amniotic fluid).not serious.
.december 05 between xmas-new year I had a severe bout of gastroenetritis.
.february 06 I had what I though was a cold/flu, it turned into a nasty chest infection, went to doctor found out I had whooping cough ( i was immunised as a child), i had this for almost 3 months before i finally got rid of the cough.
since then I have suffered from the following;
heartbeat like feeling in the stomach (or in that general area)
tender stomach (again in that general area), sometimes abdomen looks a little swollen
poor appetite
weight loss
sometimes nausea
headaches, almost daily; sometimes so severe I cannot even stand
visual problems, mainly feels like my eyes are trying to go in different directions
poor concentration
occasional muscle aches, mainly below elbow or below knee.
and fatigue (probably from lack of sleep!!)
I have been to doctors alot , they have not run ANY blood tests, the only test I have had done was a gastroscopy and stomach biopsy (tested for h.pylori and coeliac) all was normal, no ulcers or gastritis.
The docotor then told me I have IBS, can I be given this diagnosis without any other tests being done?? I don't think this is IBS.
If any one could please help me or recommend any possible test I should have done I would be most gratefull. I cannot go on like this anymore, I have two children to think of.

I see this post is 2 almost 3 years old, but I feel that I could be of some help. Hopefully, you haven't been suffering this long and have found some sort of relief. If so, I wouldn't mind you sharing some of your strategies as I have been "diagnosed" with "IBS" as well. I definitely know IBS is a fable-disease..... they tell anybody that has similar symptoms like abdominal discomfort, heartburn, constipation, or diharrhea that they have IBS because they are unsure. Even to date, they really don't know much about IBS.. all they know is it has to do with how one manages their anxiety and stress... which would in turn relate to brain functions. This condition is not irreversible, whatever it may be. I am sure of that.
Steps returning to normality are;
-8-10 hours of sleep at night; no more or less.. Your body can react in wierd ways if it is exhausted
-Make you sure you are getting a balanced diet and drinking atleast 6-8, 8oz. glasses of water a day
-As well as eating a healthy balanced diet, cut your intake on red meats and eat light, lean meats such as turkey, chicken, etc. You can still eat red meats but just a high amount or as often as you normally do
-Go to helpforIBS.com... they have a "cheat sheet" that shows you good foods to eat for a "sensitive stomach"
-If you don't have much appetite.. eat a banana... studies have shown that 2 bananas give one enough energy to do an hour of strenuous work out (or something amazing like that, so eat a banana for breakfast if you can't force yourself to eat anything else)
-Make sure you are getting the right amount of fiber- remember fresh fruits and yellow, and dark green and leafy veggies
-Try to get atleast 30 min. of some kind of exercise everyday (if not more)
-Cut back on heavy spices and spicy foods, fried or greasy foods, junk food, and fast food
-Read books to exercise mind and strengthen mind power.. so that when you feel these attacks coming on (related to negative thoughts, energies, or feelings) you have enough stamina and strength to not give and and to fight the attack. Really, your mind is more powerful than you think. Tell yourself that you are stronger than your problem and that you're not gonna let it bother you or bring you down. Instead focus on something else you have to do and don't let it bug you.
No one said it was gonna be easy. but I have faith that you can do it. Considering how bad I was with "IBS", anxiety, OCD, stress, and many other problems that have stemmed from my mind going off on crazy tangents... I have came very far in tha past 6 mos.
I am already so much better than I was before just by educating myself on my condition and learning to listen to mySELF.
I will tell you that I said SCREW doctor's after I felt several blew off my condition, at times I felt I was dying and no one could possibly understand..... and they really didn't. So one day I said screw it... I'ma do this myself. I had doctor's telling me it was IBS, it was this, it was that. I had even fainted from all tha exasperation of so many things coming at me at once in life and then this health issue. Since all of this, I have learned to perform my own "cognitive behavioral therapy" and learn to calm myself down. I know what my triggers are and I know my solutions. I know when I'm thinking negatively and so I begin to tell my own self off as if I was talking to someone who really pissed me off. Through all this, I can say one thing I am most thankful for... and that is tha strength I have attained. Not to mention tha knowledge I've brushed up on that would have never appeal to me before.
MY SUCCESSES ARE; I've quit biting my nails, quit drinking alcohol (except on occasion), quit smoking cigs, learned to curve alot of my ocd behaviors/ticks, and I feel so much healthier and happier. I feel confident and faithful within myself. And I suppose that's what I've been looking for all along!
