So, I'm only about a week or so away from my tonsillectomy / Adenoidectomy / turbinate reduction.
I went in yesterday for my pre op and the Nurse practitioner would not give me a note excusing my husband from work for more than 2 weeks.
She said that I will be " absolutely fine" at the end of 2 weeks and I "won't even need him"
I'm hoping this is true but, Last year I had a tympanomastoidectomy and my DR told me recovery would take about 2 weeks... I was sick as a dog for almost a month!
I worry that Maybe I just heal slower than others?
In any case, how many people still need to be cared for after the 2nd week and, how can I get my DR to give me a note excusing my husband
( if I need him to care for me. )
My husband is not getting paid for the time off, he just needs the note to be excused from work. they have a very strict attendance policy.

to be honest, the recovery doesnt really knock you off of your feet, sure its a little painful, but its just in your throat neck and sometimes ears. I highly doubt you will really need someone attending to you at all times even after the first 10 days. My doctor only required that someone stay with you for all of the first 24 hours...2 weeks is a lot, You'll be fine.

When I had mine out they did it during school spring vacation so we wouldn't miss any school. It was only a one week vacation and we were all back in school. My mother and father were both working so I was on my own all day after I got home from the hospital. I don't remember anything I couldn't do for myself, but I didn't answer the phone. :O

Well, that is a relief! When you had yours removed where you really young? I've heard the pain is more intense for adults.
I'm in my mid 20's .... Should I expect to heal as fast?

I was 10 and that was in 1950 so I would assume they have much better methods by now. I know they do much better with anesthesia because I had bypass surgery in '96 and the anesthesia was nothing compared to what I experienced in 1950. Back then it was ether and they held a mask on my face that made me feel like I was being smothered with a gas that burned by nose and throat and lungs, until I blacked out. Waking up from the ether was another horror show.
The anesthesia when I had the bypass surgery was nothing. It was apparently added to the lines they already had in me, so I was not even aware of it. They wheeled me into the operating room and all the doctors and nurses introduced themselves. As soon as they were done, I was out.
The only significant pain I remember after the tonsil and adenoid operation was swallowing. Like don't do it --- but you have to, at least I never found a way to let the ice cream melt and run down my throat without swallowing. Cold apple juice and letting ice cubes melt in my mouth were two of my favorites. Of course it hurt to talk out loud but by the time I went back to school a week later I don't remember any problems talking or eating. Although I was probably selective about what I ate for a while.
I think healing and pain is different for everyone so there isn't any way to compare it well. Years ago I had a vasectomy. A co-worker did it before me and came back to work the same day. My scrotum swelled up the size of a grapefruit, turned all black and hurt like hell. I was in bed for a week and out of work for 2 weeks. Was it a difference in us or was it the skill of the surgeon? We didn't go to the same doctor.
I do know as I get older I don't feel the intense pain I used to, from similar cuts. My personal theory is that you have a certain number of nerve endings in your skin, so there are more per inch when you're little.
So I say don't stress yourself about it because of what someone else says, and your own positive attitude will have a lot to do with your recovery and how you feel. If you expect it to heal fast, I believe it will.

That's such a great attitude!
I really am hoping it all will go well but, as I'm sure you know.. I have jitters.
On a related note : If I still need help, any idea on how to get my DR to approve more time off?
Thanks for the encouragement!

I think if you find you need it after the operation your doctor will be willing to do that.
