I would like your opinion on this matter. My father is 69 years old and he has to undergo stent implantation. Now, the dilemma is – drug-eluded vs plain stents in relation to avoiding restenosis. His friend has done this procedure with regular stents and the restenosis came shortly after he was released from the hospital. What are the benefits of drug-eluded stents?

First of all, you should now that regular stents are made of stainless steel, but nevertheless it is still considered as a foreign object in our body, therefore the inflammation and swelling around it might happen easily. Drug-eluded stents on the other hand, contain slow released drugs that prevent proliferation of the surrounding tissue which prevents the obstruction of the artery.
