Familial Dysautonomia is a genetic disease seen in male and female Jewish babies. It is noticed at birth, because dysfunctions of the autonomic and sensory nervous systems are very obvious. Incomplete development of the neurons is responsible for this disease. The autonomic nervous system is affected and it controls bodily functions such as: overflow tears when crying, breathing when there isn’t enough oxygen, regulation of blood pressure and body temperatures, normal swallowing and digestion. The prognosis vary from case to case. Severity of symptoms and early detection are important for dealing with the disease.
