When menopause happens before the age of 40, no matter for what reason, that condition is called premature or early menopause and this condition is not as rare as it was thought before. This condition happens because ovaries are producing less female sex hormone, estrogen, and this lack of estrogen causes irregular, changed periods and symptoms like hot flashes. There are number of causes for ovaries to stop producing estrogen, from, like you said, cancer treatments and removal of ovaries or uterus to regular surgical procedures in lower abdomen region. Also, this condition can be caused by autoimmune disorders and the fact that her skin and hair are also “growing old” which is not directly related to estrogen maybe can be explained with genetic or autoimmune disorder that is causing all of this.
