I took penicillin for a week for my wisdom teeth extraction, and then amoxicillin for another week after that, and after getting an infection, I took cephalexin for another week. I was supposed to start my period 2 weeks ago. I'm a little worried because I've been reading that antibiotics don't affect menstrual cycles greatly but I am sure I am not pregnant. After reading all these stories, it might be from the antibiotics and hopefully my period will begin soon.

I am in my forties and I get sinus infections at least once a year. A couple of years ago I notice that when I take amoxicillin my breast started hurting as though I was on my period. The next time I took antibiotics my period was two weeks late. The last time I took antibiotics my period did not come for two months. There is a definite correlation of taking antibiotics and irregular menstrual cycle. I have asked several doctors about this but they have never heard of it. Finally I met a doctor yesterday who said that some women are sensitive to antibiotics and it affects their system. He also said that it is not harmful. If he knows that a woman has this sensitivity he will prescribe her an antibiotic that is less harsh although it still may affect her.

I have had the same problem. I was starting to worry, because I want to get pregnant and I have been tracking my periods. I am a week past due for my period. Last month I took antibiotics for a insect bite that gave me an infection. a week later I ended up with a uti and was put on more antibiotics. I was given no warning by the Dr. that it could affect my period. I was starting to worry that I had something wrong with me and that I would not be able to get pregnant. I guess it will just take longer to be able to start trying again.

I've been on 2 different types of antibiotics for the past 9days. I just completed the dosage today. Meanwhile, my period is meant to start today by my calculations. I am a virgin so there is no possibility of being pregnant. Meanwhile it doesn't feel like my period is here!! Help!!!!

Same issue here. I was given an injection of Rosephin and am currently on day #6 of a 10 day course of Ceftin (Cefuroxime) for a Kidney/bladder infection. My "period" symptoms began normally when expected a few days ago, but I've only been spotting, and just barely doing that.

i took keflex for 5 days, 4 capsules a day for a UTI. Now my period is late by 6 days but i've been experiencing my pms systems right on time but they seem to be dragging on and yet no period! What the hell is going on?
Two years ago i took a diff antibiotic for a UTI and had a period late by 10 days. It seems these stupid antibiotics DO make your period late despite all contradictions by doctors! It isn't mentioned on the antibiotic leaflet either as side effect!

I took anitbiotics for a vb and am now 5 days late...I'm always on time. Odd, but when I look online many 'side effects' and 'professionals' claim that it does not affect your cycle (just birth control) yet more and more women are coming forward with the same concerns.

I took a 7 day antibiotocs course fro a UTI (and tested negative for pregnancy when I was at the doctors for bladder infection) 3 weeks ago; and immediately followed those Antibiotics by another 7 day course of Amoxocillan for dental treatments. My period is still not here and should have been here 6 days ago. I am freaking out that I may be preganant. I have not had sex since that negative pregnancy test.

my girlfriend is having the exact problem most you ladies are having so i decided to do a little research to ease her mind what i found out is that if ur taking an antibiotic it can effect the enzymes and horomones in ur body mainly an enzyme that effects estrogen in woman, when enzymes in ur body are effected by something since they are a protein they can change shape. the shape of a protein determines the function when the fuction cant be conducted correctly it can result in ur body acting differnetly like being late on ur cycle or even missing it until the ezymes and horomones are regulated again this holds true whether ur on bc or not horomones are horomones i hope this can help

I've been taking Keflex for 2 months now and i haven't had my period since. I am sexually active but I've taken three pregnancy tests and they all came back negative. I'm starting to believe that it is a side-effect, even if the doctor says it isn't.

I got UTI after 2 days my period ended. I was on antibiotic Cephalexin for 3 days and Nitrofurantoin for 3 days. My period suddenly came again on the second day of Nitrofurantoin. I had the side effect of body pain,finger pain and fatigue during Nitrofurantoin. Now I stop taking Nitrofurantoin and hope the period will end soon.
