effect of antibiotics on menses

hi ladies, i have been on 7 days treatment of Cephalexin (Cefalin) last Aug 30 2013. i've finished the medication but i usually expecting my period normally first week every month. this month, i should have my period last Sept 2, but until now it haven't come yet. i'm worried because i had sex before my treatment but i'm 99.9% sure that i'm in safe day that night. PMS' dragging me out. what to do?

Same her. Period came earlier thou. Light light spotting. It had me concerned too!!!!!!!

Yes, this happened to me. Usage of antibiotics delayed my period for a week..  My doctor even confirmed this.

I took 500mg of ceftin 2x a day for a sinus infection for 2 weeks and I am almost a month late. I went to my dr for my first physical in almost 9 yrs(didn't have health insurance) and they took X-rays of my sinuses. I've had allergy issues for 3 years previously so I was shocked I had an infection because I didn't have any pain except for occasional headaches just bad congestion and puffy eyes. Now I'm on 500 mg of levaquin 1x a day for 10 days because it seemed all ceftin did was make my congestion worse and take my period away. Now I'm wondering if my new prescription will delay it as well. I have also taken 3 pregnancy tests all negative.

YES! I had a bronchitis. I took Amoxicillin 875 MG, twice a day, for a week! My period is now 5 days late. I am a "cycle tracker." I am usually right on the money, sometimes even to the time of day (morning, evening, etc) to when my period will arrive! Antibodics can definitely affect a women's cycle, science just has not caught up yet! Don't stress, that can add to the delay as well.

Just an update: Since this incident, and intermittent antibiotics, II've only had 2 periods.....one from July10-16, and one from Sept 17-23. Here we are in Dec and I'm very worried about what this means in terms of fertility. Going to see a Dr. Maybe BC pills can help regulate things...idk. I've waited such a long time to get to this place. Now I'm ready to have a baby...now THIS. SOOOOO WORRIED.

I had a suspected UTI and was prescribed Cipro (1 tabx250mg, twice a day) and completed the course from 10 Dec to 15 Dec. Went to see the doctor again and he did a dipstick test for my UTI, and said I still had an infection. He prescribed Bactrim (2 tabsx400mg, twice a day). I completed the course from 19 Dec to 24 Dec. My UTI cleared, but like most of the posts here, my period was late, and still has yet to come. I'm worried as I am sexually active and usually have unprotected sex. My period was due on the week of 23 Dec(give and take a 4-5 days), and I am definitely not trying to get pregnant yet. I have no symptom that I may be pregnant besides the late period. But if these antibiotics are really messing up my period, I will definitely be avoiding them as much as I can.

I also took antibiotics around the middle of December, and currently my period is 12 days late. I'll be taking a pregnancy test tomorrow, I'll be sure to update back here once I get the results.

Just an update. I took a pregnancy test (the urine kind) and it was negative. My period is almost 2 months late, and honestly, I'm freaking out. I will be taking another test later this week just to be sure. What's the longest anyone had their period delayed, and was not pregnant?

It's been a month since I have had this staph infection and I have not had my period at all and I'm 16

So to start all of this off I am going to say that yes I am sexually active and I am not on the birth control pill. So usually I have 2 periods in each month (depending on how long the month is and how the days of the week fall etc). Well I started taking amoxicillin on the 21 of February for a horrible sinus infection (had the sinus/nasal drip or whatever it's called when it starts to infect your throat/tonsils, popping ears, coughing, the whole 9). Anyways, I was supposed to get my period on the 20th of February so I had already taken 2 pregnancy tests and it had come up negative. We are usually very careful, he uses condoms or the pull out method-either way he never finishes in me. So then I started taking amoxicillin and had been taking it until the end of February and then stopped. I still hadn't gotten my period and was supposed to on the 5th of March. I've now missed 2 periods and know for certain that I am NOT preggo cuz I've taken about a billion tests and they are all negative. Anyways I started feeling slight systems of my period on the 5th through today which is the 10th. I hadn't had any actual bleeding at all until today when I started getting like little spotting. When will I get back on my normal cycle?! Help!:(

I last took Cephalexin (500mg) 20 days ago for a Strep throat and I'm four days late. I had to take it for 10 days but had to suspend on the 7th because I began getting rashes and severe red bruise-like marks on my legs. I still have the marks and they insist on appearing! I also get painful acupuncture-like stinging on my back and neck. How are you guys dealing with the antibiotic? I'm worried about my cycle.

I have been having that same problem. I have taken multiple test all coming back negative. My last period was in January and now it's March and still a no show. Even before that, when I had an infection late November and had been placed on cipro with another antibiotic, my cycle was regular each month.

Wow. I had Keflex for a cellulitis infection and my period is 6 days late now, strangely I felt all the symptoms of pms, cramps and what not before my due date but now they're gone..as my period would've been if I had it. But my heads so anxious and stressed more than usual. Weird, I'm usually VERY regular. By reading this it seems I'm not the only one. YAY
