Hello,
Just reading some of these posts, and thought that I should share some of what I have been experiencing. I am 33 years old and have been diagnosed with Chronic Epididymitis and have had it now from 9 months. I have been given levofloxocin 2 times with no success, prednisonne a couple times which seems to be somwhat effective in reducing swelling, and now I am on 30 days of ciprofloxicin and teva-terrazocin for 30 days. The discomfort comes and goes and the pain is never really excreciating, but feels as though it could be painful at any minute, and I am conciously aware of it all the time. It has led to a significant decrease in personal exercise, and I think that depression is certainly sitting in. Not sure if there is any end in sight, but if anyone has found something that works, please post. I am hoping that it will just go away, but it is showing no signs of stopping. I can really sympathize with all.

I was diagnosed with epididimytis about 1 year ago.  I'm 21.  I've have 3 cases of it in the last 10 months.  It's an annoying thing.  But don't worry about it.  Drink tons of water and rest (those are the days where all the pain and swelling seem to go away.  Also, masturbation (not frequently... there can be too much of a good thing) can help relieve some pressure.  If the pain gets really bad, lie down, elevate the scrotum with a sock or wash cloth (or beach towel if you have a huge scrotum); take an anti-inflammatory as well.
I've been on Ciproflaxin for a few weeks.  My Urologist is fighting this aggressively.  She suggests that my sphincter is tightening when I'm urinating.  This will cause prostate irritation, which can easily lead to epididimytis.  I'm fairly certain that you guys (including myself) need to chill out.  Take a vacation or something.  Eat healthy, tons of fruits and vegetables for increased acidity in the blood to fight off infection.  Water, water, water.  Also, check to see if your sphincter is tightening when you urinate.  Mine does.  I think I'm going to be put on an alpha-blocker.  Epididimytis is not a big deal if you take care of yourself.  Health is the essence of life.
For those of you who are having this problem, hang in there.  Relax.  Listen to some fun music and open a window.
Peace, Love, and Beautiful Balls

HI,

Can I ask a strange question please? I have had epididmytus for 3 motnhs now and am not getting any better. i have to wait untill sept to see a urologist again. I was reading a study on a bodybuilding website that if you have sex or masturbate on a full bladder this can push the urine back into the epididymus and cause the infection would this relate to anyone?

Hi guys - I posted as Ali Baba i n 2007. What some of you need to realise is - if the anti biotics are not helping - then it may not be a bacterial infection that is causing your epididymitis. Mine we believe is a result of an operation of testicle torsion and 10 years later the scar tissue has bothered a nerve or two and left me with epidiymitus. Sounds strange but true. The doctor calls it 'unrealated nerve condition' that affects my epidiymis. I have had this for 5 years now. I basically don't drink alcohol and the rest of my life is the same. I am still taking neurontin, somalgen and xanax - I was started on 9 pills a day - 3 of each. Now I take 3 pills every 2 days. When I am regularly having sex - it sometimes gets a little worse - not painful - just a little discomfort - but after ejaculation or masturbation (Doctor recommended this) - it is always better. I tell my partner and she always understands better than I would have thought. It has never been a problem. - So don't worry about telling your partner - I am sure she.he will understand. When I broke up with my girlfriend of nearly 5 years - I started to feel much better - I never put 2 and 2 together until I started having sex again - and more discomfort returned - but it is managable. It is just like blue balls as others say - ejaculation usually eases it.....if real bad = try ice - has been a blessing at my absolute worse times. I exercise all the time - and really push myself and I have no problem - it actually feels better - maybe through the endorphins charging about my system.
I am interested to see if the alpha blocks work. I am also interested what people have said about the yeast infection thing - although when i was first diagnosed - I was tested for absolutely everything and everything came back fine - so that might not be the case for me.

Unfortunately we seem do know more about this than many doctors.
Guys - keep posting good news, and what treatments work as well as your questions
The doctor also told me that I can only manage the problem. If it goes away - it can come back at any time. So I don't let the condition run me - and I am at ease with the fact that I could well have this for the rest of my life....there are many worse things to have.

i have been diagnosed with epiditimitis and prostatitis as well. i have had both for about 2 1/2 months now. i was on heavy antibiotics for almost 6 weeks, i saw minor results, i even had an antibiotic shot. i am now on anti inflammatory meds for two weeks. i am one week in with minor results. i experience a dull to medium pain in my right testicle. the left testicle has pain as well, but it's prob 20% of what i feel in my right. my abdo also hurts on my right side sometimes. the abdo pain is the one thing that has gotten better. i also feel my prostate, or what feels like it, twitching. it was explained to me that the prostate sits on a bed of nerves in you pelvis. this twitching seems to get worse after a bowel movement. it seems like sometime the testicle pain may increase with a bowel movement as well. i have frequent urination. no pain when urinating, no blood, etc. please respond with any info. i have a dr. appt in a week and we go from there. i just want to get back to my normal life. thanks for reading.

I have been diagnosed with epididymitis as well and was on Cipro and doxicycline. They did nothing. I also get a throbbing in my scrotum and my upper thighs ache. I think I have a hernia but I have had ultra sounds and they haven't shown anything. I can't stand for long periods of time as my scrotum starts throbbing. Any suggestions?

HEY GUYS I TOO AM SUFFERING FROM TESTICLE PAIN. I GOT IT LAST YEAR AROUND THE SAME TIME WHILE I WAS RIDDING MY MOTORCYCLE. Came home that night couldnt sleep went to hospital they ultrasound found nothing wrong took medication forgot what they gave me. 1 year later now i was doing the same thing ridding my motorcycle when i got the pain ,but earlier in the day i fell down the stairs in my house and landed on my ass. I have arthritis in my back and was wondering could it be possible that a nerve goes down to my testicle as my ciatic pain shoots down my back. Its been 5 days now been taking it easy pain still here i thought it would go away on its own but it has not. I am currently not taking anything just trying to figure it out wtf. good luck guys this sucks bad.............

Thank you to everyone for your information.  I was diagnosed with epididyitis a month ago.  I have the same symptoms, pain, lumpy and very sensitive left testicle.  Was given doxycycline for 10 days.  Got better after a few days and then got the intense pain on the 11 day.  Went to a urolgist the second time, diagnosed the same, check my prostate, said it was normal and gave me cipro and a non steroidal ant-iinflamatory.  I only took the cipro and it got better in one day but got worse again, so went back to a different urologist gave me a shot of antibiotic, and I told him we should try Bactrim, again got better then got worse again in one week.  Went to a third urologist and he recommended an ultra sound.  I am now waiting on the results.  I had urine analyisis and testing and all came out negative for infection.  Even the first vist showed no infection.  Therefore, I took it on myself off the Bactrim( I figured 30 days on antibiotic should have killed everything if there was ever an infection) since it is an inflamation by definition.   So how do you treat an inflamation? Ice and anti-inflamatories.  So I didn't really want to put ice on my balls(wrapped in towel) so I have a pool, and the water temperature is between 68-72 due to the winter.  I have been going in the pool for 15 minutes twice a day.  The first time I did it, I got instant relief.  I have been doing this for 4 days now and I have completely pain free and have just a slight testicle swelling but no sensitivity.  I didn't take the anti-inflamatories yet, but don't think I need it.  If you dont a have a cold pool, you could use a bath tub and put some ice in it.  If your testicles go inside your abdomin, don't worry as this is normal due the cold water.  I would not do this longer than 15 minutes.  I will continue to do this twice a day until the testicle completely goes back to normal.  Also wanted to let you know that taking long term antibiotics can cause problems too.  Hope this helps.
