Hello, I am sixteen and I was diagnosed with Epidymitis four days ago, after feeling a dull, "burning-like" pain in my right testicle for a week or so. At the point I was taken to the hospital I just couldn't handle the pain.
I have been taking an anti-inflamatory (Dexketoprofeno trometamtol) and tramadol/paracetamol, and my Dr said that it is suposed to go away in a week after taking them, but so far they only help me in order to sleep. It never goes completely go away. When I wake up, the pain comes back.
Honestly, after reading everything here, I am truly scared. My semen is transparent and watery, and it hurts when it eyaculates so I have stopped masturbating. I am taking note of the things suggested here in case it really doesn't go away for me. Fingers crossed.

I have had this problem on and off for 7 years. I was prescribed antibiotics many times which I believe damaged my stomach and caused intolerance to gluten.
It was while searching the internet for an alternative to antibiotics that I came across a combination of high doses of vitamin C 1000mg or 2000mg per day and the use of a herb called saw palmetto. Very soon after trying these two my symptoms left and stayed away for over 2 years. They came back recently and I am once again treating myself with these two. I find that if I miss my Vitamin C the symptoms will return.

I don't think epididymitis will develop into torsion. Torsion is when the testicle wraps around itself restricting blood flow. If you haven't had an ultrasound done, I suggest you have one to eliminate that diagnosis. I suffered from epididymitis several years ago, had a shot of penicillin, and it went away immediately. However, since then I've had a multiple on and off bouts of testicular (left one), pelvic, and lower back pain for many years. I've seen several doctors, none of which found bacteria or prostititis. Had ultrasounds, CT scans, MRI's, pelvic floor therapy, none of which returned anything. It's completely annoying and I'm starting to think it's something I'll always live with at this point.

hi, ben lukin for info on epididymitis and happened upon this group. was diagnosed 4 months ago........and at one point the pain was so bad i thought i mite lose my balls. no sweeling...JUST PAIN! apparently infection that caused it. for weeks on end i would be in unimaginable pain. but after using 2 different antibiotics and most importantly RESTING i seeem to be on the mend...still have some discomfort sum days and still wake up early morning to relieve myself but seem to be genuinely healing...the mind is a powerful thing.but if u send out positive vibes and stay positive things will get better.....i am an avid runner + soccer player.......so i am just biding my time and letting the body heal till i know im ready....then im gunna run like Forrest Gump and never stop running!!! cant wait!!! woohooo!!!!

I was diagnosed with Epididymitis about a year ago. I was given various antibiotics for about a month. Some helped, some didn't. But since it is an inflammation the anti-inflammatory makes more sense but I was never given this. What helped me was to go in a really cold pool, 70-75 for about five minutes once a day. If you don't have a pool, maybe some ice in a bath tub would work. Also don't ever use a penis ring. I think that this caused me to have it. The good news is after about 2 months it mostly went away. I am pain free now after one year. I think I still feel a little bump, but the doctor says it feels fine. I also had a testicular ultrasound done twice, but nothing was found. I would also recommend boxer briefs and don't wear tight pants. Finally, I would recommend eating a quarter medium size water melon a day. Hope this helps.

Hey guys, I have suffered from epididymitis for the past 9 months. Tried all the antibiotis; Cipro, Doxycycline, Azithromycin and many more. None of them worked. Finally I asked the doctor to prescribe metronidazole(used for Trichomoniasis). One dose of it took care of the problem in 4 days. I now have no testicular pain. I urge you guys to try it, if you haven't.

Thanks for the feedback! Were any of your urine cultures or tests positive for bacteria? I can't get anyone to prescribe me anything because everything continues to come back negative with no issues.

I have what you all have. Although my pain is not absolutely unbearable, it’s bad enough none the less. The attack is cyclical, coming in waves that last for a week or two. My story: I started having problems with epididymitis (without an infection) about five years ago. I’ve gone to the doctor about this condition a few times and I received ciprofloxacin and doxycycline on separate occasions. Neither of them made a difference—and frankly, I don’t feel that is the right solution since I show no signs of acute epididymitis. Generally the pain comes slowly into my right testicle for a week and then peaks to being very uncomfortable; then the discomfort will ebb, but never go away completely. I had a bad bout in 2008 for 6 months, and then I was reasonably okay in 2009 and 2010. In November 2011 it came back again (badly) and then it went away. Now, since December 2012 to the present, the discomfort has been coming back every few weeks. The last doctor I went to in December 2012 gave me a urinalysis (which showed up negative) and he told me the condition is chronic. Sometimes when the pain gets bad enough it radiates to above my left knee and down my legs. Also I feel it in above the groin and in my legs in its worst period. Having to go to the bathroom makes the discomfort worse. Being in certain positions eases the discomfort slightly; and for some reason being in a car seat makes it worse. At the moment, I am in the middle of another attack. I was good for two months, but then I could feel the pain coming on for a week. Most likely, giving past experience, it will peak in a few days then ebb off—and then it will come back. So yeah, I know what you are going through. I can tell you that any herbal remedy you might come across is a joke, or just a scam. I tried one from Australia years ago; I thought it was making a difference, but I think the condition just burned out after a while. I tried the same remedy recently and I saw no difference. I don’t think doctors have an idea of what really causes it—the best cause I could find is ‘over-active’ nerves. When it’s in attack mode the pain is bad and the only thing can do is wait it out. Exercise—walking, calisthenics, and such—do help, but don’t do anything strenuous like a leg press (bad move).
Any solutions?

I haven't tried anything else yet since I feel almost normal again, like you where it comes and goes in waves where some are longer than others. However, I did read on another health site that some people have tried a chiropractor to readjust the SI joint in the lower back. I guess the SI joint where all of the nerves kind of meet together in the middle of the body and if it's slightly out of whack then it can cause referred nerve pain. Some people who had it adjusted at the chiro said it really helped and alleviated their pain. It's worth a shot if your insurance covers a reasonable amount of the office visit.

Interesting. But I am wary of chiropractors mainly because of the experiences of people I know, plus my time as a claim adjuster. I do think it has to do with over-active nerves. How can my hip ache constantly for a day and then be completely gone the next? As for the epididymitis, it does come in waves. I can feel it coming slowly a few days before, gradually getting worse and worse; then it will peak and slowly recede. Ibuprofen does nothing for me. Perhaps getting on a stretching regime would help?
At the moment I am taking yarrow pills to see if that has any effect. I don't hold out much hope for herbs; but I am willing to try.
My current flareup started on Sunday. I started to feel it coming on for a day. By Tuesday it was uncomfortable. Now I am patiently waiting for it to recede. It's been going on like this every very four or five weeks for a year.

Diagnosed with Epididymitis approx a month back. Doc gave some antibiotics initially for 5 days. Pain was completely gone for about a week after this course completed but it returned again. I went to a GP first and again visited him but he suggested to visit a Urologist since the pain is returning. I did, and he gave a 20 day course of DEC (diethylcarbamazine) (and some pain killers for first 3 days), two per day. Again, absolutely no pain during these 20 days. Today is 21st and I feel something is returning back again. Not sure, no pain at present but its not normal like the past 20 days. Will update again.

I do wonder as when I was 16 I had to have an operation down there I had a torsion and varicocele problem that was corrected, that 20 years later this is not helping recover from Epididymitis.
It also seems more common than i realised, my story on getting this is strange really I basically went for a long walk in September (on a hot day) i felt fine until i got home i had a mark on my inside leg from clothes rubbing against me I put antiseptic on it did'nt think much of it until the day day when i woke up in agony (to which i was eventually diagnosed with Epididymitis)
The doctor gave me Trimethoprim for 2 weeks and the pain really died, however this week its back just as bad - the dr gave me 2 options on how to treat
either a anti inflammatory or Trimethoprim for 2 weeks, I chose the antibiotic, as I can get Nurofen over the counter.
I've tried hot baths/ice etc nothing really takes teh edge off it - has anyone found anything that really takes the pain level away from all you can do is think about it level pain
