Today May 10th, it has now been exactly 5 weeks since my surgery. I'm 51 and am having a very difficult time with this. My breath is terrible and if I look down at the back of my throat using a flashlight in the mirror I still have small coatings a white film where my tonsils were removed. Lost 14 lbs so far, and will probably lose more as almost everything I try to eat tastes horrible. Shouldn't my throat be healed ny now? I know the nerves of my tongue were damaged as they compressed it to access my tonsils. I can understand not being able to taste food, but why is it food tastes so bad? I kind of think I need to go back to my ENT, but don't want to hear from him that this is all normal? I also don't want to hear that nothing can be done about this. Ant suggestions? Please help?

Have you discussed this with your surgeon or physician? If you haven't, do. A loss of or a change can mean many different things. Just because you had your tonsils removed does not mean that you can't have another problem at the same time. Until then gargle at least 3 times a day with warm salt water. For now I would stay away from dairy products. When you brush your teeth be sure you brush your tongue. Good luck...I had my tonsils removed when I was 19 using only a local..not very smart then!! Good luck. Oh, I also found warmed ginger ale was very soothing to sip on.
