On Dec 17th. 2009 I had my tonsils removed and uvula trimmed back. I must say I am not the type to handle surgery or pain very well. I woke up after surgery rather quickly and without nausea. This is rare for me. So the anesthesiaologist (sp?) must have listened to me. Afterwards I was given ice chips and and ice pack for my neck that made me feel good. I was talking before I was discharged the same day. NO BLEEDING. When I got home Mom made me home made boneless chicken soup. I ate about a cups worth. I drank water that night. I flossed, brushed and swished that night. Before bed I took my pain pill and anti nausea medications. Next day I was in discomfort but not in untolerable pain. I was able to talk to my coworkers and call my doctors office to give a progress report. Each day I was able to eat breakfast of farina or egg wrapped with cheese. I found ice pops soothe my throat. And ate soup daily. After each meal I would brush my teeth and gargle. I found that gargling would discharge any food particles caught up in the back of my throat. I am in day nine now and no major pain. I do find that my taste buds are all out of whack. Sweet food taste salty! What worked for me:
Ice pops
water-sipped throughout the day
liquid multivitamins and calcuim
soup
protein mixed with water
Tylenol liquid-day
Tylenol with codeine at night to sleep=I only used this when I used my voice a lot during the day and with an anitnausea medI
I ate at least two meals everyday starting from surgery day.
Bath daily
Brush your teeth at least 3x daily, and gargle religiously after evermeal or drink other than water, I think this saved me from what people discribed at putrid butt breath odor

Hope my tips help. Good Luck
