I had bronchitis all week. On Wednesday I started to eat again after not eating for 2 days. EVERYTHING I have ate, drank or smelled in the last two days has a chemical taste. NASTY and I am dizzy. Achy body as well. I just want to taste the food. Or know whats causing this affliction.

I am on my second day of Tamiflu for the flu. I just made some soup and it smells disgusting, so much, I don't want to eat, but know I have to. It is horrible! Thank you everyone. At least, I don't feel I am alone either

If you had a cold with your flu you would also have had sinus drip. You need to flush your sinuses for about 3 days with any OTC nasal spray, then take a OTC sinus med to keep them dry for 3 days. This is how I fought my way back to normal smells after my cold and flu with a sinus infection. Everything smelled burnt or worse and then I couldn't taste anything except the burnt smell. I lost 10 pounds because my favourite foods were gross. Every room I walked into I could smell one thing and it always had to be distorted. The worst was the bathroom with all the soaps and powders and stuff. I would almost faint.

It's been going on for a couple of months but is much worse now after a resent bout with a flu virus.
Hoping someone has an answers the doctors sure don't.

Hi,

Have also suffered the same issues as everyone is mentioned- Burnt smell/taste... after several doctors appointments he said it's nerve damage after a bad flu and will take up to 18 months to heal. The nerves are communicating with your brain and sending altered messages and interpret what you think is correct... think of it as 8 wire connections that have half of them in the wrong location all sinus related and not taste but as they are connected your sense of taste is altered, your body will eventually connect them correctly but just takes time. My only trick is to eat lemons or acidic fruit followed by normal food this seemed to help mask the taste... timenim afraid is the best heavier in his case- nothing medical can be done at this time. Good luck everyone and hope you all recover ;)

I'm getting over the flu and as of yesterday I have the same horrible taste with meats only. It's only at the tip of my tongue that meat taste/smell like burnt chemicals/plastic. The taste buds on the side of my tongue taste that actual food. WEIRD!!
