I had the flue this winter. After it was gone, I could not smell anything and everything I eat has the SAME funky taste. Coffee, which I love, I cannot tolerate it now. As well as most foods. I eat when I am hungry but not for the pleasure of the flavor. Yuck!

I got sick with a cold about 2-3 days ago, when I woke up this morning I noticed a very strange and awful taste in my mouth. When I drank tea, brushed my teeth, and ate soup it all tasted and smelled the exact same! It’s like a burnt or chemical taste/smell I can’t really explain! I’ve only experienced this today, and everyone on here has said it lasts months!!!! I’m terrified! I can’t smell/taste this nasty c**p every time I breathe! Help?

This was posted a long time ago but I thought I'd share my experience, may help someone. I had the flu for 14 days, sickest I've ever been. I also experienced a nasty burnt taste/smell. Most food tasted awful, toothpaste tasted like burnt chemicals.?
I read that some flu can cause damage to something in your nose having to do with your sense of smell and taste. I've read about other people's similar experiences and some can take up to a year to get back to normal. I've been well for 3 weeks now and I'm finally getting back to normal. So it lasted about 5 weeks for me. It's not fun but be patient, it should pass eventually.

I had the flu, lasted for 3-4days, now I can’t stand coffee and it was something I really enjoyed daily, it’s so frustrating.

same here, but it's not quite burnt. most things taste & smell just different & a lot of carbonated drinks have a slight aluminum taste even if they aren't from a can

I have used Halls Eucalyptus cough drops (I'm getting over a week long flu, and having the "everything tastes strange" syndrome), and they taste weird, too. It seems like they don't work well as they usually would, and they leave a chemical aftertaste in my mouth.
