Well thanks to the internet, we can save some money and time while we still investigate. I have noticed this same condition of feeling the heat beat and exercise a lot and in tremendous shape in spite of my age. I do think though it would be sound advice to keep track of our blood pressure on this issue even though I haven't did that lately but it has been checked many times the year and years prior.

Try taking magnesium. This is one of the overlooked issues that causes palpitations. You lose magnesium sweating and become deficient from strenuous exercise. Your heart is an electrical system that requires different ions to operate, magnesium being one of them. I bet you will sleep better and the palpitations will go away. 

take a good form of magnesium like pill magnesium citrate 100-300mg. The cheap oxalate form will give you stomach issues

Hi, this is for anyone reading this, whom has come here to "try" an find answers regarding your ticker beating fast. I am 35 years of age, IDDM (insulin dependant diabetic), mother of two. There is history of heart failure within my family thru generations. Like most of you here saying about a strong pulsation, I too had this then the migraines this lasted for months, the migraines lead me to tears of discomfort almost every time. Finally I built up the courage to do something about it months later, to find out I was having a heart attack. The hospital an doctors involved instantly stented me. Its now been 5 months since I have had the heart attack an the stent took place, I am still getting very strong pulsations in early hours of the morning, laying down I have found worsens it. Colder I am also worsens it. I have been to A&E bout it a couple times now, to be informed that I having an angina attack. If my body is upright, it DOES help to ease this, make sure you are comfortable first, go to the toilet an release yourself prior to settling say in a lazyboy or even your couch. Elevate your feet. Mum says coffee will elevate your heart rate also ie the caffine. I find a cold icy glass of water helps. While in hospital at the time of my heart attack, my liver test went high also, they are still slowly coming down, the doctor involved in my care at time, thinks they elevated due to the medications they were giving me. I am NOT a drinker, nor do I take drugs. I do however smoke. OK OK I know most you reading this will say that smoking is a big NO NO an will frown upon my situation ..due to me smoking. Most prolly wont even be gain enough to say they smoke with all this going on to them, I am gain to say it, as I know an can see what smoking has done to me an willing to admit to it ...are you? Smoking aside, my advise is to calm an keep your wits about you in these times you feel the pulsations. AND FOR GOODNESS SAKE PLEASE PLEASE SEEK MEDICAL HELP....YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SUFFER...NO ONE DOES!!!!

I have the same symptoms.  I am 46, run hills 4x / week.  I do the occasional triathlon.  I like the post about being "in the moment."  I'm going to try and take that attitude.  At least we know we're alive!  

I drink 2 big cups of coffee every morning, so I'm wondering if I need to try and drop that.

I can't sleep on my left side or I feel the little guy in my chest pounding his hammer against the bed.  I also hear my pulse if my ear is directly against the pillow.

I'm glad to find others - especially younger and healthy - experiencing the same thing.

If anyone's heart explodes, please post and let the rest of us know.  :-D

I faced the same problem for a year. I did ECG,Chest X-ray,Echo,Thyroid test etc. But nothing was found.Then I did CBC(Complete Blood Count) where I found iron and vitamin B12 defficiency.Doctor gave me some vitamin tablets and soon my strong heart beats recovered. Have you done your CBC??

Hello all, 37 male here.. same deal.  I had SVT episodes earlier on in the year... narrowed it down to energy drinks and caffeine triggering it.  Had multiple tests.. xray, ECG's out the ying yang.. like a dozen.. BP on the low normal.. echocardiogram.. all normal.. all good.  SVT's have pretty much gone away.. knock on wood.. but REALLY strong heart beat comes and goes.. and yeah, right when I lay down to go to sleep..  But what I find helps alot to get get my heart to relax is I have a kick azz noise reduction headset, and I play spa / sleep relaxation music..  15 minutes or so of that and I can take my headset off, roll over and asleep I go :)  Little advice for ya's.. I'm not saying it doesn't worry me or bother me... I'm still afraid to do any cardio cause I'm afraid something might happen.. thoughts like maybe I should write my will out first.. stupid I know..

I can feel my heart beat, especially when it is quiet and I am lying in bed. I am in good shape, and my pulse is very slow, typically around 50. I can see my heart beat when I look at myself in a mirror.  I can even take my pulse just by looking at the veins in my arms and legs.

Don't worry too much about it.  I am 71 and have had this all my life.  I went through war, worked construction, was a welder, machinist, teacher and just about everything else.  I have noticed that the less I do, the more it happens.  Sometimes, when I am resting, my heart will produce a very strong beat every five beats or so.  I don't pay any attention to it any more.  I have a physical every year for fifty years and had all kinds of tests.  However, if it gets to the point you are terrified, just stand and do stretching exercises and DEEP breathing.  Yoga helps more than anything.  Walking with headset playing soothing music just loud enough to distract you from the heart problem will in time help it calm down.  The book of Job says that everyone has his appointed time to die, so worry is your worst enemy.

I,too have the same symptom, thumping heart, esp. after supper. I thoutht it was my BP acting up, but i kept hearing about this flavor enhancer called mono sodium glutamate, they put it in all kinds of food,it was giving me headaches and a weak feeling,so i looked up MSG and sure enough a symptom was heart pounding. Since i quit eating foods with MSG in them,my heart calmed down and i feel much better. Please read up on MSG that could be alot of people's problems.   good luck.

i know i am replying too late for this..please see my suggestion - .These sort of strong palpitations suggest that you might be having paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia.
In young fit people, this form of tachycardia(fast heartbeat) does not usually do any harm, but it can be distressing, especially if it occurs frequently, disturbs sleep, or goes on for a long time.
This form of tachycardia may go away on its own and not come back.
You should certainly avoid excessive alcoholconsumption, but you do not have to stop altogether. It is also sensible that you have reduced your caffeine intake, because this can be an irritant to the heart. Caffeine is found in tea,coffee and some of the soft drinks as well.So try and avoid those.
If it does not settle down, then go to your doctor. He might do an ECG and give a suitable medicine.
But don't worry about this, it is not life threatening, nor does it mean you have a weak heart.

I know this is an old post to a very common problem. People with anxiety disorder tend to focus on their physical feelings where normally you wouldn't give it a second thought. No need to worry. You are fine! I know, I feel it too and I have anxiety and I've been through the same exams and clean bill of health. Sometimes it can even cause a panic attack. Take slow deep breathes.

Hi, I'm a swimmer, 17, female. I also do power boxing and some other regular exercises like running, circuit training, and badminton. I started having similar conditions about two years ago when I started becoming more physically active. I am not sure, but I think this condition has to do with stress because I've only noticed my heart becoming abnormally erratic when I tended to push myself too hard, like working out too much, binging then starving, not sleeping, and all that. I am very worried though as to what this might mean. Am I sick or something? Recently, my heart has been palpitating more often and it is really starting to bother me. Am I getting worse?
