There's no way to change your genetics, but knowing your family's health history will give you an advantage in protecting your heart. You also will have a greater risk for heart complications if you smoke or do drugs. This is one of the most preventable risk factors there is. Eating foods high in bad fats is another risk factor that is highly preventable. Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is a big step in keeping your heart healthy. Obesity takes a huge toll on the heart, as it's forced to work harder and tries to overcome obstacles that normally wouldn't be there. Do everything you can to protect your heart and keep it healthy and strong. It works hard for you, and frankly, you don't want to tick it off!
