hi, my name is georgina and im 22 y.o . its almost 2am and i cant sleep from the unbelievable pain i have in my throat after my tonsillectomy.
i had my surgery on friday .. today is monday (lets not consider the change of the day) .. does it mean im on the 4rth day or 3rd after surgery ? hopefuly 4th.

i just needed to write somewhere to somebody what i feel with the hope that someone out there is dealing with the same problem and amount of pain as me..

i just hate my bf so much right now that hes all fine and happy and pain-free ..and sleeping like a total J*RK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and im all alone sitting in the living room all pathetic and exhausted from the AMAZING PAIN..

its day 4 lets say and all i feel is that instead of getting a bit better its getting worse.
i've read a lot of posts in the internet that said that it gets only worse before it gets better. everybyody was talking about this scabs formation in the early days.. which i will assume is this white-gray coating where my tonsills used to be... and about the pain getting worse when the scabs fall off and the throat is all bloody and sensitive .. so not even water is able to go down.
my observation is that during the day im relatively ok if take a large amount of medicine ( pills described by my STU*ID doc which dont seem to work) and just use the spray i got today by myself . oand also drink alot and stuff... then i can make it through the day.. this day to be exact yesterday i dont remember how i was doing.BUT DURING THE NIGHT IT GETS UNBEARABLE. why ??? no pills and no spray and no water seem to work at all on me during night time

as far as food : ice cream = painful . also yogurt is a bit painful and it makes this mucus in my throat making hard to swallow..
the best : water and iced tea .. even though right now i cant seem to be able to drink those either.
food : cold soups.. no big pieces of food in it or something.. and i also soak some sliced bread in the soup so i wont feel so hungry.

please if somebody sees this post answer back.. i need support :-(
thank you xx i will keep posting every day hoping someone is out there

it sounds stup*d to here but im glad there is somewhere out there experiencing the same thing as me.. i feel that im not alone ..keep me posted how are u feeling everyday after the surgery to see if our recovery is going pretty much the same way..if u'd like

day 5-- 10 am

last night i think i slept around 6 in the morning trying to keep my self as much hydrated and for as long as i could and had a painkiller before sleeping .. at 9 :30 i woke up my EXCRUCIATING pain in y throat.. found it hard to swallow even my water
but . as i said above yesterday.. i went to the pharmacy store yesterday and i asked for a spray that can be as a painkiller also and they gave me TANTUM VERDE in spray form. it helps somehow.. not like "wow now i dont feel a thing" but in a way that u can be able to get ur pill down ur throat without wanting to faint.

observations : since yesterday i noticed pain not just at the back of my throa but also below my tongue , at the sides of my tongue and on the side of my cheeks..which was oral ulcers or maybe thrash (candidiasis) but in mild form. i dont know y it happened but i mean c'mon.as if the pain from the surgery wasnt bad enough now i needed to get those.

as far as the other people wrote in their blogs..the great pain is yet to come ..and this is scaring the s**t out of me.

Well, it says this post was a week ago, so I assume you are finally doing better. I was doing some research for a cousin in this same situation, and found out that a tea called "Throat Coat" really seems to help. Brew up a bunch, let it cool, then just keep sipping. You can find it in a lot of grocery stores, now, but for sure can find it in a health food store.

Keep your head up Georgina, I went through the same thing too ! I'm on day 11 post op myself. A couple things that help me, I stopped trying to sleep the whole way between pain med doses ( 4 hours ) , instead I sleep for a couple of hours, then I start setting my alarm for every 30 minutes. From that point I make sure I drink something at least once every 30 minutes, that way your throat doesn't dry out and the pain isn't as bad when it's time to take the next dose. You still get SOME sleep, and at least the pain is a bit less. Hope you are feeling better soon, along with everyone else who is in the same situation as us!

Good luck to the other tonsillectomy surgery sufferers out there! I am in my thirteenth day of recovery. I stopped taking pain medication because it was not helping at all! Right after the surgery was awful! But it does not compare to the pain that came from my ears, throat, teeth, jaw, and all the bones in my face. No one told me that everything connected to my throat would be burning with searing pain. I have still not had a full night's sleep since the surgery. What an absolute nightmare. I still haven't had any scabs come out of my throat yet though my doctor said to me three days ago on the tenth day of my surgery that it should be coming out soon. Currently I am suffering pain, I just decided after 72 pills of percocet and 5 pills of morphine during the first 11 days of recovery that they are just making my situation worse. I couldn't swallow any of these pills and they were prescribed to me to take one every 4 hours which is a complete joke. The pain honestly made me feel like I was going to die. Two days ago I quit all chewing of pain medication because they just don't work on me. I am just balling my eyes out and wailing and no one in my household understands. This is worst than child bearing labour to me. This is the most unimaginable pain that I have ever experienced. I had no idea. I thought I would be down for a week then back to normal life. My ears feel like someone is taking a coat hanger and pulling them inside out! I have fever chills still in my thirteenth day and a horrible smell like really sickly. This experience is gross too. Between the phlegm spitting up and the pain shooting from my eyes, nose, ears, throat, mouth and lack of sleep this journey has been terrible for me personally. The one thing that I am doing to cope with my recovery is the following: cups of very warm peppermint tea, I find that it helps to sooth my throat a bit, I am finding that cold is shocking to my painful throat. I am going back to the doctor's office tomorrow, so hopefully by then some more of the pain will subside. I hope that all of this suffering will be worth it. The reason why I had the surgery is that I had problems with throat infections all my life since I was a young child (now 37 yrs old) then I had really bad tonsil stones develop over the last few years which was ruining my personal and professional life. When the both of my doctor's suggested that I have the surgery done. This is now the outcome. I wish everyone luck with their recovery!

I'm 37 too, and I'm on day 13. I managed with the pain using drops for the first 5 days. During the 5 days the bleeding came again, and had an op to stop it. The doctor sewed the whole pocket up. This was very painful and tight. A few days later the stitches came out, probably due to chewing to much. They operated again. But with minimal stitching. The next days, I carried on eating soft things. To help with removing the scabs. Its now day 13. I've had a couple of bleeds (one tonight in fact, the day before I can go home)and these have clotted up. But these still make me very scared. If I new more about the op and what may happen afterwards. Then I would of said "No to the op". This is not only painful to me, but to my wife and two little ladies. Amy and Milly. My wife is German and I am British. So our children should be getting the best of both worlds. And I miss them all, a real lot. Milly is 2 and Amy is 6. All the best to other people having their tonsils out.
