Hi, my 26 years old daughter was diagnosed with fibromuscular dysplasia. I know only that it increases the bood pressure, but I would really like to know more about it. What will help my daughter cure this condition?

Fibromuscular dysplasia casues a high blood pressure, because the muscle and fibrous tissues in arteries are harden and thicken. This restricts blood flow through the affected arteries, and it causes a releasing of excessive amounts of renin from the kidneys. If your daughter smokes, she has to quit immediately, because the cigarettes can worsen fibromuscular dysplasia. If your daughter is a mild case of fibromuscular dysplasia, she won’t need a treatment. Her doctor will just monitor her kidney function periodically, and prescribe her some blood pressure drugs. However, if she is a severe case, the treatment will probably include percutaneous angioplasty or surgery. The treatments are used to unblock the renal arteries, and once they succeed, the blood pressure returns to normal. I am sorry that your daughter has fibromuscular dysplasia, and I hope she’ll get well.
