I'm a mother of one and I'm 28yrs of age. I just actually paired my flu like symptoms to my cycle, today. I noticed last month, when my symptoms began that perhaps I just contracted a cold from just being out in the elements. Being the summer time I pretty much figured it happens. But, my symptoms were so severe I had a soar throat, ear pain, extreme fatigue, chills and hot sweats, my sleep was non existent, I couldn't bear to be out of bed long. My appetite consisted of apple sauce and really cold water. It lasted for about 2 days before my cycle. My cycle has never been regular unless on birth control, but I had the suspicion it was late. I rarely experience any pms symptoms during my cycle. Actually, over the years my cramping has turned from extreme pain to almost also non existent. So here I am now 2 days before my cycle I am again experiencing the same flu like symptoms, expect for this month I'm having more issues with coughing, sore throat, ear pain which is causing lack of sleep, fatigue, and congestion. My mucus this time around is ridiculous. As I began to put the timing together I hesitated to think maybe I am imagining this. It could be all coincidental. But for the past couple years I have had hardly any colds or flu even during the coldest winter months. So, building up the courage to understand if it was just me I am estatic to know this is not uncommon. The bad part is there are so many of you suffering and many for an extended period of time. This being my second month I can only take the advice given you guys have shared and continue to allow prayer and faith to heal me. I am a hairstylist so, we don't get many sick days in my field. I just want to thank you all for posting and sharing your testimonies. I pray over us all that we will have an answer and solution to this. And our symptoms will subside.

I so feel you. I missed days from work due to severe cramps which included throwing up, flu like symptoms etc. I eventually lost my job too because of it. I think the plight of women that suffer from this needs more attention. It is dehabilitating and we need a voice for this as many of us have to take time off work or call in sick and our stupid bosses give us a really bad time because of it. I can't help being a woman and I did not bring these symptoms or the things I suffer from my period upon myself. By the way I am 37 now and I have suffered like this since day one of my period whcih was when I was 12

I'm 37 and never been married or had kids and I feel like you ie wnating the whole period thing to just vanish but I have to hold out until I have kids lol but I have suffered with these symptoms for years too. And recently started feeling the pressure on my bladder. I literally have to run to the loo or it all comes out. It just really sucks. I'm aneamic too, at 8.0 I think and I'm having dizzy spells and heart palpitations. don't know what to do. I'm sorry but the doctors don't have a clue either of what to do.

Wow, you have described all that I have been going through and it has been since I was 12 as well. I get cramps so bad and really sudden nad sharp that I just open my mouth to scream but nothing comes out and I get stuck right where I'm standing too. I also throw up and have flue like symptoms and very heavy and very painful periods that leaves me having to take days off wok. My period also last between 7 to 9 days long. I just need something that can help. We women need a voice for this sort of thing. We don't get sympathy from many others who don't suffer from this. Plus we get into trouble for having to take too many days of work.

I myself have endometriosis and it is severe! I am only nineteen and have had scar tissue removed from my tubes ... it only made my periods worse! Endometriosis is so tragic it has caused depression along with mood swings diagnosed as bipolar disorder! Its horrible when my cycle comes I bleed like a scary movie! I sleep mostly just because being awake is hell!

i've been having comparably small flu symptoms at the beginning of my cycle for about a year now. i don't know if it would make a difference in your case, but i've found that taking colloidal silver helps me a lot. i also use carrot juice and epsom salts, and lots of water. when i use all of that i cut down the time span that the symptoms stay around. the epsom salts (or pineapple juice) helps with cramps too. ;) i've read that during a period, the immune system is weaker, so it's more likely to let a person get sick. hope you find the answer oon!

Hello

Please don't feel alone! Im in exactly the same position! I feel like im going crazy!! & I get a sore throat every month for 2 days straight - likeIm getting a really bad cold & usually end up in bed with no energy. Im a single mum & it's sooooo hard!!!

Im seeing a wholistic dr about this & I've decided to gather as much info as I can & take it with me when I go to see her... So I suggest perhaps you can do the same ie: document your symptoms, gather info from the web, & know that there will be some cure.

I myself have been looking for a solution to this monthly dibilitating problem. My eyes are very red, puffy and itchy. I feel like a have to make myself breath harder, slight anxiety, flu like symptoms, These all happen about 10 days before my period and end about 2 days into it. I honestly believe that the symptoms are allergies that we have and either don't know it or they are just much stronger because our immune system is weakened during this period of the month.  I already have stopped weaaring any kind of perfumes because after years of wearing it noticed that every time I got into the car to go somewhere I started getting irritable and anxiety. I stopped wearing the perfumes now and it doesnt happen any longer. But the allergies can be many things including food to rag weed, pet dander.. Google allergy symptoms and you will see all of the side effects that you experience before your period. Of course, Im not talking its all allergies but I truly think a lot of it is. I have been trying Claritin D and it has made a world of difference. Give it a try!

okay I thought I was the only one, but this is exactly how I feel 1 week before my periods. I feel better that i am not the only one but feel bad that other women have to suffer like this too. This interups my life every month. Is it worth going to the doctors? it seems no one knows what this is or why.

I guess much like everyone else, I was thinking I might be a little crazy. I had cervical cancer and had a cone biopsy to remove it in Feb 2010. Periods have been a little wacky since then, but nothing like the last two months. I thought I had the flu last month. Fever, horrid body aches, really bad neck and lower back pain, cramps, muscle and joint pain, sore ears, sneezing, soo sleepy, and to top it off I was on my period. I remember crawling up the staircase last month to get pads. Nevermind the really mean crazy lady that's been taking over my body for 2 weeks before my last 2 periods. I started my period today. Now I have horrible pain in my neck and shoulders, same in my lower back, fatigue. I hope it stops there, last month i was on the couch for 4 days. As it set in I told my husband "Man I haven't been sick with a cold or flu in years, now I feel like i'm getting the flu for the 2nd time in as many months." And then I remembered being on my period last month as well. So like any woman without insurance, I turned to google and landed here. It truly saddens me to see so many women and so much suffering with nobody able or willing to help. I'm so sorry you are all going through this ladies, but it does help to know that i'm not crazy. Although for 2 weeks before my last 2 periods my family and friends would definetly disagree.

ESTROGEN DOMINANCE I highly reccomend everyone here do some googling on it. I took a hormone balance quiz by John Leed MD and it led me to ESTROGEN dominance.

im 18, and this is the second time i got flu symptoms with my period.
the first time it was when i wasnt taking birth control, nurse at school sent me home. i usually get better at the end of my period though.
So now im on the pill, my last period was weird, it was spotting for 9 days, but i didnt get sick. And now i got a regular one, and got sick with it too -_- i slept right, didnt hang out with the unsanitary crowds at lunch in school, my WBC count is a bit higher than usual, but seriously, im starting to hate my vagina for turning on me like that.
right now i just had a slight fever, terrible cramps, headache, stuffy nose, and now im coughy =( glad my throat doesnt hurt yet.
The stuff i read here helped me a bit.
I usually try boosting my immune system and sleeping right when having a period, that helps most of the time, but sometimes i just get sick and theres nothing i can do about it, but take care of myself and wait for it to stop.
