HI EVERYONE..THE REASON IM TYPING IN CAPS IS BECAUSE IM HOPING THIS MIGHT HELP SOMEONE LIKE IT HELPED ME. LIKE ALL OF YOU I CAME ONLINE SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS AND AFTER GOING THROUGH 50+ pages i still could not figure out what i needed to do to avoid getting the flu before my period every month. Im a 22 year old female and my eating habits are all over the place..im a smoker and also i will avoid doctors as much as i can so i hardly take antibiotics or any kind of prescriptions including small pain relievers like headaches..anyways to get to the point everyday i made sure i ate within the two hours after i woke up even if its something as small as egg whites and a piece of sunflower flax toast..my flu symptoms were so bad i was unable to work and i just cant afford to take it off and have no one to cover me. THIS IS WHAT I DID: i started to drink a bottle or a glass now a couple glasses or whatever i can get my hands on of ORANGE JUICE as pure as you can or anything very vitamin C enriched also try to keep your diet as healthy as possible..another thing i realized each time i got sick i was always around people who had something as small as a cough and because ur immune system drops before your period u are more susceptible of getting it...so try to avoid that as much as possible

I am very happy to say that this month..i started my cycle and i did not get sick..ive also bought chewable vitamin c tablets and take them daily now..i hope this could possibly help someone out there even if its just one person.. stay strong ladies!

I went to the doctor because I thought I had the flu several times. My Obgyn stated that it's actually really bad PMS and my body is ready to have a baby. He doesn't want me to have a period anymore, so I take back to back birth control pills w/o the last week of sugar pills. Hope this helps.

I'm 25 and I've been getting sick with an extreme sore throat to where I can hardly swallow and fatigue.  This has been happening for 2 years now.  I've found that it happens for about 6-8 months, especially around the winter months.  I have had no solution.  The doctor said it might be allergies but nothing has helped.  Glad to know I'm not alone.

well have them to check u for a cyst, that is possible i am 37 , and i have always had bad periods, it got worse and very irregular after i had my tubes tied, one yr after my tubes were tied i had a cyst, and in rupptured and extreme pain , but it took four months for that to happen, after that i am fine , this period i am on now , is causing me to ache all over like i have the flu ,its lasting way too long i have been on it now for 5 days, which most of my periods last 3 days tops, i had 2 periods last month, so i think we both need to go to the doctor. and ask them to check us for cyst,s nausea is one of the symptoms for cyst the first 1 i had i thought i was having morning sickness, even after my tubes were tied the er dr checked me out and he couldnt feel my right ovary which all the symptoms pointed to a cyst. well take one day at a time 4 ibprophen works better than midol for my cramps.

I have been experiencing these debilitating flu-like symptoms for the last 2 months. I'm 26, healthy and exercise a lot. However, I turned vegan about 3 months ago and replaced dairy with soya milk and other products.

I've been taking an iron and multi-vitamin supplement for the last 2 months so I honestly think it's to do with the lack of dairy or may even have something to do with the soy. So I'm going to cut out of the soy and go back to dairy to see if that helps, as I never suffered like this prior to going vegan. To those of you suffering these symptoms who do eat dairy, perhaps consider how much dairy you're actually getting. Perhaps you just aren't getting high enough levels of it.

Hi, I have NO ONE to talk to.. When I started my period i was sick with a slowly getting worse cough. Three days after my period started I got very carsick on the way home. My stomach had already been hurting ALL day long... it was cramps and hurt. When i would walk to class i would almost, this is embarrassing.. poop on my self. Luckily i was wearing a pad. When i got home after the car ride. I got super sick, but i couldn't puke. I would gag and start to choke and nothing would come up. I had a slight fever. I had diarrhea sooo bad i had to keep getting up in the middle of the night to not do it on myself. The only time i threw up was that night, and it was very little. I got dizzy when i got up too fast and VERY sensitive smell; this helped me almost puke after i got out of the car and was coming into the house and smelled food the day after school. A month ago on January 16 me and my boyfriend stuck his penis in ONE time and checked and made sure there was noooo precum or semen. I start my period between the 17-20 of each month. I started mine on time this month and these symptoms came along with it.. about three days after my period had started it got brown and chunky and came out red when i was on the toilet.. I am 16 and just started having regular period about four months ago. I am off my period now and just barely have any of these symptoms. Am i pregnant? I have taken a quiz about pregnancy but it said negative. Please help me :( Im sorry this is nasty..

I am quite shocked to hear all you ladies suffering just I am. I actually thought I was imagining my symptoms but no, here we all are with similar issues. I noticed about 2 years ago that just before my period, I am getting sick with flu like symptoms. And it is getting noticeably worse. I get so fatigued I can sleep all day, sore throat, cough, low grade fever, sweats, aches and of course that dreadful migraine. I eat healthily but not enough and actually my appetite has decreased markedly since i really began to notice these symptoms. I have not spoken to a doctor about this because i tend to find that doctors think we make a lot of stuff up.  When I had bloods done a few years back because of my exhaustion, my thyroid was low, my iron was low and my white cells were elevated. But no clear answers. Thankyou all for sharing your stories and I really will go all out to try to boost my immune system now as it is getting just too much, being so sick and exhausted every single month. I am 43 and used to be quite healthy At least now i have some hope.

I also suffered from flu like symptoms right before buy period.  My obgyn put me on the NuvaRing birth control and recommend that I leave it in continuously and not even have a period.  The constant levNorma hormones was exactly what my body needed.  The flu like symptoms went away, no mood swings, etc.  I felt wonderful.  I have been doing this now for about 3 years with good results.

I looked up PMDD and it warns to avoid caffeine. A lot of what I have been reading says that caffeine contributes to a lot of the problems I have been having. My daughter is 18 months old and I drink a lot of coffee also.

Google "Estrogen Dominance" or "Progesterone Therapy"

Please do not take chemical (prescribed) hormones, they are known to cause lots of side effects and increase chances of getting cancer.

Instead, purchase a bio identical Progesterone Cream (Google and read reviews for the best brand) and use between 100mg to 200mg per day, you may even need more.

There may be an increase of symptoms whilst you are "loading" progesterone back into the system, this is common and many women panic and stop using the cream and just continue to suffer with their original symptoms .

The link provided by one of the replies is an extremely expensive ($399 a month!) nutritional based website which with a little research you could purchase the same products for a lot less

However, I strongly suspect with a little reading on the webpage "Progesterone Therapy" you may be shocked at the realization that you have more estrogen than progesterone and this can cause all manner of chaos physically and mentally.

Good luck

Hi all,

Since September 2012 I have been experiencing the same symptoms. My baby started to go to daycare and he now brings all the germs home and right before I get my period, if he happens to be sick at that time, I catch it from him.

I started to take some immune booster pills which I got from Amazon last month, but that didn't make any difference and I got sick with the same monthly flu on 3/15 and have been having all the symptoms for about two weeks now.

Since September, almost every month, I get a Z pack from my doctor (Azithromycin antibiotic) but this time, it didn't even help.

Yesterday I went to see a different family doctor and she said it could be allergy and she told me to start taking OTC Claritin 10 mg and nasal spray two weeks before I get my period and see if that helps. She said the phlegm color (yellow and bloody) could also be an indication of an allergy problem. But I think since my body's immune system is at its weakest before and during the period, then when I am around a sick person or germs, I will catch it easier so the answer could be that we have to do something about our immune system.

I work out everyday and eat Lean Cuisine for lunch everyday and take all sorts of vitamins on a daily basis but I still get sick since I put my kid into a daycare.

I would really appreciate it if someone could please help me find a cure for this problem.

Hi,

I guess I may as well add my similar symptoms to this forum. Am 37, for about a year now my period has been announcing itself with flu like symptoms. Am now in bed with sore throat, back ache, no fever (yet... I usually get pretty high temperature) and yes when my period arrives, i'm in such agony, I can only scream, cry for my mum (who's never there ), vomit, have diarrhea, etc. Today I felt suicidal, luckily, since a day or two my breasts were more sensitive, so I knew my period was announcing itself. Pretty scary, glad you all share your story, no doctor or gyna can help. I take Lemsip usually, is hot drink with paracetamol (relieves pain, makes me sleepy, and keeps me warm. I do not have any particular illness that seems to cause this, I too do not have children and I got my tubes tied some three years ago. But I doubt this has got anything to do with what's causing this. Food for medical research I think... Good luck y'all.
