I get these same symptoms occasionally before I start. I was told by my Gynocologyst that our bodies immune systems can be weakened before/during our periods (resistance to viruses etc. is low).
I will get headaches, upper body aches, low grade fever & massive fatigue every so often with my periods. I'm usually fine after about 24 hours after starting.
Doesn't sound like there is much we can do except Tylenol, lots of water, and rest. Excersizing regularly does help me!
Good luck.

One dis-similarity from all the posts here is that my girl friend is only 19 year old. She haven't had a baby or anything. In fact I am her only sex partner ever. From what I read so far, most women start having this problem in their late 20s and after. Any comments on this??
This, flu like symptoms every month, had hurt our relationship a little. I found myself having to look after my girl friend for a week or so every month. Sometime she has mood swings. And sometimes I would (wrong so) blame her for not staying health enough. (which i will not now i have read this forum).
Women out there, flight on!

Hi girls!!! I have a solution for that nasty feeling all or most of us get before that wonderful gift we get once a month.
I take MOTRIN a few days before my period and VOILA!!! MOTRIN is specifically for muscle pain, and it WORKS!!!!!!!
Trust me on this one ladies, because I have tried, tylenol extra strength, advil flu and cold......etc. none of these pills worked, or prescribed ANTI-INFLAMATORIES work also but you need a percription , so for me MOTRIN has worked wonders , hope this helps
and please let me know. I am 49 years old and pre-menopausing, so trust me on this one. as for the mood swings. I stay away from junk food two weeks before my period. But that has no connection to the pills working, MOTRIN does it without avoiding the junk food.
So take two tablets every four hours a couple of days before your period to get it in your system and keep on taking them until your blood lost slows down, BUT PLEASE LADIES CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR FIRST to make sure you can take MOTRIN, in case of underlying health issues.
BE WELL LADIE<3

I thought I had toxic shock, but my doctor said no. They had no idea what it was and I got sick of paying them for nothing. Someone suggested I may be allergic to tampons, so I did some research and found the Diva cup. It's a silicon cup that you re-use. After I quit using tampons and switched to this cup the symptoms went away. Last time I got sick was late January. I like the cup too, even though at first it seemed gross.
I'm 32 and this had never happened to me before I was 31. I'm not sure I was allergic to the tampons... maybe it just went away on it's own. Whatever the reason, I hope it never comes back. Good luck people.

What Causes Them
After seeing that you too experience the symptoms mentioned above just a few days prior to your period, you must be curious to know what the probable cause for this behavior is. That's what is given below.
Hormonal Changes: Estrogen and Progesterone are the two hormones that are at their peak when a woman's body is preparing for a possible pregnancy (just before a period). This increased level of the two hormones has been deduced to be the major cause of the flu like symptoms, especially the throbbing headaches that you experience before your period. Also, hormone induced birth control pills that you might be consuming are another cause for these headaches before your period.
Viral Infection: The body's immune system gets affected a little before a woman has her period. Since the level of hormones goes up in the body, the body's immune system produces lesser immune cells, and thus makes it increasingly susceptible to viruses. This is when the body is the most vulnerable and as a result, you fall prey to the infection which brings on symptoms like fever, fatigue and body ache.
Excess Stress: You might be surprised, but sometimes, the body gets tired easily and feels weak before a period, simply because it has been overworked. The days before a woman's period are full of various bodily changes. So, the body needs some time to get used to these changes and sends you signs by getting worn out easily.

I have also exactly same symptoms and they started when I turned 37ish as well. Don't know what it is but it's certainly irritaiting and on top of that, had my tubes clamped and have very severe pains during the winter period. Noone helps. The hospital gives you a whole bunch of pills in one of those little cups and send you home. How bad is the hospital and Gps now, it's like, they graduated after a week and got their degree out of their "a..". Anyway, thanx for reading. All the best.
