I feel my foreskin should naturally come back down away from the head of the penis when i get an erection and it doesnt.

im 16 and I am not circumcised, i can pull my foreskin back over the head when erect with no discomfort but it does not just naturally come back.

I am worried, is this abnormal and what effects would it have on intercourse?

(sorry i accidently posted this topic twice :$ sorry)

Unfortunately, foreskins short enough to naturally retract are uncommon. Most of us have to work at it. I pulled this message from another forum:

I guess (Asians) don't see (circumcision) as necessary.
For them it is normal that the glans will be uncovered
after puberty, so what's the fuss? And if it's not,
that's when they think about circumcision.
A close acquaintance of mine is south-east asian
by origin and he told me that he retracted his
foreskin just once - about age 12 - and that's where
it stayed ever since. To him that's just the natural
thing to do. Is it paraphimosis? I don't know and
never will - we're both married family men.

Note: My brother, cousin and I, and others we have met
or heard about later on, did the same thing. But some
of us think it would be better to start earlier, just
as soon as the foreskin is readily retractable.
Mothers, if for whatever reason you are going to delay
or avoid circumcision for your son, consider this cost-
less, painless and totally reversable alternative which
provides all of the same benefits.
Do him an important favor and help him get his foreskin
pulled back off the penis head at the earliest possible
age.

Not every foreskin will retract fully during erection. Some of this depends on foreskin length. I've got -- and I hate to even use this term, but it does offer a good description -- an 'elephant trunk' type foreskin. Even when erect, my glans is covered. I guess the question is whether or not erections are painful/uncomfortable for you. If they are not, and you can function normally during intercourse/masturbation, then you may not have any issue at all. Those with excessively tight foreskins usually have some kind of discomfort -- even bleeding from skin tears. If that is the case for you, then yes, you need to consult the MD. You might just need manual stretching of the skin.

My foreskin is considered "long" and has never automatically retracted during erections.
There are different lengths of foreskin, and some are short enough to retract on their own when there's an erection, but there are just as many that don't.

Here's a link to a foreskin restoration website that has a full range of foreskin coverage pictures and descriptions.
As DavidScott mentions, the important part is that there is no pain when there's an erection, when masturbating or during intercourse.
For what it's worth, I'd be a CI-9.5 on the chart (I know there's no ".5", but if there was, that's what I'd be), so you're not alone, and, to be honest, most people who like uncircumcised men, like a lot of foreskin.
