Hello there,
Gallbladder is removed surgically and this surgery is called cholecystectomy.
With open cholecystectomy, gallbladder is removed through approximately 5 inch incision in the abdomen. The cut is made on the right side above the ribs and goes below your waist. This is traditional surgery, where surgeon uses one rather big cut. Newer method is called laparoscopy and they use many smaller cuts instead of one big (sometimes even 10 inch) to remove gallbladder. They also use a small thin tube with a scope on the top, like a little camera, which they insert in the body to observe the inside. In both methods patient is asleep (under anaesthesia).
