I had serious heartburn after one night of eating lots of chips and salsa this past weekend. I went to bed and woke up with this heart burn and I wasn’t concerned back then, but now don’t feel any heartburn anymore. The thing that worries me is this pain I feel when I eat solids. My chest starts to hurt in the mid region where heartburn usually is and it almost hurts to swallow. Are those symptoms of gastrointestinal disease?

Hello, it’s always been problematic to doctor to diagnose heart burn/chest pain. Indeed, the differential diagnosis includes an EKG to rule out heart disease in what may seem to be slight stomach related pain. I am suffering from GERD and that is gastrointestinal disease. I have big problems with acid reflux especially at night. I would advise you to get it checked out by a gastroenterologist and until then you may benefit from taking ranitidine tablets or an antacid.
