Hi there! I have a problem with my best friend. He thinks he is gay. This thought is obsessing him so badly, that it influences his every day’s life-even more that it should. I think that girls haven’t interested him that much, but just because he hasn’t met a right girl yet. He is only 18 years old. He explains this by saying that he gets tingling in his groin whenever he sees a good looking guy and therefore he believes he is attracted to him. I am almost sure he is not guy, but I don’t know how to reassure him. Please, help me save my friend! I hate to see him like this!!!!

Hello! I had pretty much the same situation. In lack of proper girlfriends I developed this theory that I was gay. In my society gay is not so popular, and therefore my trouble was huge. Funny thing is that I had this same tingling feeling in the groin. This thought started to occupy most of my time, and in that way influence my every day activities, so I decided to start counseling. There I learned the following but it took me over a year of counseling and sessions with a psychiatrist. It turned out this tingling thing was not a real manifestation that I was gay, it was just something my brain was producing, because I was in such stress. And, I was not the only one actually. Many people experience the same thing, we are even in psychology books. So, what you need to do, is suggest your friend to see someone, which can help him. This is a disorder, and I think he needs a pro to help him deal with the stuff, and make him realize what is going on. At least that was my case, and it was pretty horrible.

He's gay. Tell him you're happy for him and direct him to the nearest gay bar. No such thing as the right girl if handsome boys get your attention.

wtf is wrong with you. He's not gay he has ocd. You probably wouldnt understand that being as ignorant as your post!

thats NOT ocd, i'd say he's gay and who the f**k cares? Good on him. I feel sorry for him that his friend feels its a problem, and for the first person who posted a reply who went through "therapy" to make him not gay....

A few trips to a good therapist would be of benefit to just about anyone. No matter the final out come, the topic of ones sexuality can be really embarassing to talk about with another person. Just finding the right person for your friend to talk to about his physical and emotional feelings might be difficult. That said, the absolute best thing you can do right now is listen to what he says and do not give advise about how you think he should be feeling. If he is sad about something? Then say, that sucks, if he is happy then say, thats cool. Even if you two were brothers raised in the same house, he would not think and feel like you think and feel. So, what's right for him may not always be what's right for you. No hate and fear! Stay positive!

Dude, if your buddy came to you with this information he is probably pretty sure he likes guys, and it is not your place to say that YOU are sure he's not gay. If he really is your bud you will accept him and move on. Dont change him, you cant and it will only destroy whatever bond you two have

The other day, I think I had a groinal tingle but I'm not sure. I know I have OCD about being gay and I was trying to see if I was attracted to guys or not by seing whether I could get an erection over them. I had a a groinal tingle, and my penis got a very slight erections. It definetly wasnt as large or easy to obtain as the ones I've had over girls. Does this mean I'm gay or is it just a normal groinal tingle that I got because I was freaking out?[/list]

If he says he is gay then I would say its a good possibility, but if he is only having doubts of his sexuality, and has liked girls before and never noticed guys until now, I would say theres a good chance that its ocd. The main difference is how you feel about the thoughts. If he finds the thoughts arousing then theres a good chance he is gay but if the thoughts only bring him stress and anxiety then its probably ocd. Theres a good article on this on brainphysics.com, look under HOCD.

i don't think OCD applies to sexuality.
Only this guy himself will know if he is gay and even if he truely doesn't know what he wants just now the best thing to do is to support him.

He could be gay. His body reacts to a cute guy. But why obsess about the question? He will eventually know. He does not have to actively search for a boyfriend or girlfriend. His body -- or more correctly, his brain -- will identify the right person. And whether it is a girl or a boy, it would feel good.
Now, I don't think any 18-year old would tell his best friend about his fear of becoming gay. Among teens that is the most private and horrible fear anyone can have. I THINK THAT IT WAS NOT YOUR FRIEND; IT WAS YOU. And don't worry, it you turn out to be gay, you will still be happy for as long as you don't abhor yourself and not punish yourself with all these curative therapy.
Cheers!

I will kick you square in the nads if you don't tell him to do this:
Alright I have suffered from OCD since I was about 5 years old. I had "scrupolosity" meaning I was afraid of commiting sins and every sin I commited I was going to hell for. As soon as I found out homosexuality was a sin BAM I thought I was gay> (( I was 8 yrs old it was before I even hit puberty.))
Tell him to see a psychiatrist about his problems , especially If he comes from a Religious background.
Also ask him if he's ever masturbated to lesbian porn. If he says yes, he's not gay.

there is nothing wrong if he's gay and ocd is obsessive compulsive disorder that has nothing to do with his sexuality if you have ocd doesn't mean you liking guys is because of that, quit using his ocd as your scapegoat you need to stop being a homophobe and help him through it... cause if you try to keep him how society says is normal... it might confuse him more than he is right now...
