I've been experiencing constant genital numbness with intermittent constipation for the past five months (never had these issues before, ever). Onset of symptoms was sudden and within days I was visiting ER's and Urgent Care's to figure out what the heck was going on. After ruling out lower back issues, diabetes, and vitamin/mineral deficiencies, my GP diagnosed me with genital herpes after receiving a positive blood antibody test for type one (no outbreaks to swab though). I've since also had my testosterone and psa blood work and the doctors I show the results to all say they are at good levels.

My GP was basically useless to me after the diagnosis in terms of learning more about herpes and my symptoms in particular. So I dove into trying to find information about my symptoms as they relate to herpes but I haven't had much luck. I've even joined a couple of herpes forums and posted my case to see if anyone else has gone through this. I've only seen very few posts from others suffering with the same symptoms and I haven't been able to get a hold of them.

Overall I've seen about ten different practitioners including a urologist and a sexual medicine doctor and nobody else can figure this out for me. My GP was the only one that thought it could be herpes, no one else has. I even reached out to a herpes expert and she told me she had no idea what was causing my symptoms. From what I know so far it could be the herpes causing this but it is very uncommon from what I've gathered.

So I found this site recently and thought I would post this to see if anyone has some input. I'm 40, male, and other than having hypertension (which I control with medication, diet, exercise, etc.) I am healthy. The symptoms came out of nowhere and I was feeling and doing perfectly fine up until they hit me. I had all my bodily functions and sensations in tact. Then bam, I get hit with this. And they don't seem to want to budge. To say that the last five months have been hell for me is an understatement.

My next visit is with a neurologist to see what they say. The urologist I saw told me that he thinks my physical symptoms are due to stress brought upon by an underlying psychological issue. At this point I'm willing to consider that even though I don't think that is what is causing this. A user from another forum advised me to look into issues with my pelvic floor muscles. Apparently they can tense up and cause the symptoms I'm complaining about. I'll have to see a physical therapist for that, which is another avenue I'm willing to take. The only other thing that I can think of is that it is a lower back issue and maybe the MRI they did on me missed something. But I don't know what the chances of that would be.

Anyway, sorry for the long post but it has been quite the saga these past months. I miss being and feeling normal. I totally hate this, I was healthy and vibrant before this and now I'm a mess and can't get myself together to do much. My life has been in limbo. If anyone has some valuable or informative input, please share. Thank you!!
