My 7 year old is about to lose one of his front teeth. It is also the tooth that he chipped at the age of 2 and it since has turned a bit dark, yet hasn't fallen out. A couple of days ago he compained of the pain around it and when I looked in his mouth I saw the gum pimple - it was filled with puss, when I pressed on it, the puss shot out and the pimple "diflated". It has been coming back regularly. I read about abscesses in adults and the immidiate need to go to the dentist, but was wondering if the problem could resolve itself once the tooth is out? Or should I take him to the doctor? I just don't want to submit him to unnecessary trauma unless I absolutely have to.
